  I’m in the process of bonding my male and female rabbit. When ever I do “dates” with them the male spends a lot of time humping the female. While doing so he bites the back of her neck/back what seems kind of hard. She usually just sits there and goes with it but is it normal for him to be biting on to her like that?

  Rabbits will bite fur to hold on while humping. If fur is coming with it, then you need to stop it. But if there is no fur pulling, then all is well. You should also stop humping after about 10 to 20 seconds. Youll pluck the top bun off, lightly squish them together, then pet them for a few seconds before releasing them again. Repeat every time humping lasts more than a handful of seconds.

  If she is tolerating it and he isn’t causing any harm, then I wouldn’t worry. Like Mikey says, just let him go for a few seconds and then move him off. If he is the obsessive type, you can always move him over to a “stand in” (aka a stuffed animal).

  Yes they are both spayed/neutered. She was spayed a while ago but he was neutered only a little over 2 weeks ago, could that have to do with why he spends so much time humping her? I’m definitely going to start stopping him after 10 seconds or so. Although last nights date he seems to be losing interest in humping her and even laid against her with his feet kicked out so I’m going to take that as a good sign! ?

  I would suggest waiting another 2-4 weeks. Males can impregnate for up to a month after they are neutered. Did you do any prebonding? I would suggest doing that while you wait the extra time. Most people on here believe a good guideline is 1-2 months post neuter to let the hormones die down, as they can still be rampant for that much longer after, and as I said, males can still impregnate for up to a month.
