Pee pad attractant?

  I have a 14 week male nethie and although litter training was going great… that is not the case right now. Our vet wants to wait until he’s 6 months old to neuter, yikes! Ok on to my question… my parents were kind enough to give us a pack of puppy pee pads just in case. They have become, what I thought, was a life saver. Over the past 2 weeks Cozmo, my baby bun, is having repeated accidents on these pads. While cleaning up tonight I noticed that the package says these pee pads have an “attractant” on them that somehow triggers puppies to go on them!
  My vet didn’t seemed phased when I explained the accidents. Does anyone know if the attractant could be triggering Cozmo’s accidents, or is there no way this would affect a bunny? OR is it just the hormonal thing until we wait for his neuter appt. I should note that he is peeing on these pads in addition to litter boxes, always along the perimeter of his pen. Is it marking or is it the pads?!

  Yes, sorry. Lately he’s peeing more on the pee pads than his litter box.

  Well the point of puppy pee pads is so puppy is drawn to doing his business on the pad. You then gradually move the pad to wherever you want pup’s toilet area to be. The only way you’ll know if your bun is peeing on it due to the pad itself is to remove the pad and see.

  agreed. I love the easy clean up but you’re right the only way I’ll know is if I try without them. Wish us luck! Lol

  Depending on what attractant was used, it could very well be attracting him to pee there. I think Sarah is right, the only way to know for sure is to test him.

  I’ve thought about adding a puppy pad in a spot where my boy liked to pee but I didn’t want to reinforce it being an okay toiket area lol. Silly buns. Good luck!

  We’ve always used puppy pads with Garf and they didn’t effect litter training for us I’m not sure if they’ve got anything added to them though!

  I use puppy pads for sprocket under his bedding in the litter box. Sprocket doesn’t like when pee touches his bum so he puppy pads were essential in getting him potty trained as it is an instant absorption of pee so it doesn’t touch his bum. Your bunny may just like going on the pads over the litter box. See what happens if you move the pads into the litter box. After an accident move the wet pad into the litter box and out a little bit of bedding over it. Replace the pad with a clean one or pick those up if you can keep watch.
