        Hello!

So as I was searching the internet the other night, I saw a few videos of bunnies in the bath tub (or even in the sink), fully submerged and soaked. I’ve always been told that washing a bun is dangerous because they can get ill very quickly from the cold!

I’ve heard of an instance of a bun doing swimming therapy under super close supervision, but that’s the only time I’ve heard of a bunny getting wet and it being “okay”. Thoughts/experience with this? Was I informed wrongly, or should these buns not be in the tub? Based on my initial knowledge, I’m a bit concerned about these fluffy ones!

I’m also a bit confused on why you’d “wash” a bunny, since they keep themselves so clean. I’ve only ever had to help Wilson out once when he managed to get some food on him. But I just dabbed him with a wet cloth, put some all natural baby powder on his fur, and brushed it out nice and clean….

        Any knowledge?

You are right, bunnies shouldn’t be bathed. It’s not the least bit cute when people give their buns baths. Here’s an article from The House Rabbit society on this:

          http://rabbit.org/the-dangers-of-giving-a-rabbit-a-bath/

Here’s more aboyt the dangers of wet baths:

You can give a butt bath in instances of poopy butt. The only exeption to the no-full-bath-rule I can think of now is if a bun has been soaked in sth toxic and need to get it off asap.

Agreed, lots of people don’t realise its cruel and dangerous to bathe a bunny. If i come across it somewhere like instagram, i try to kindly point out that it’s not necessary. Mostly, people don’t realise that, and are grateful to be told – they aren’t being deliberately cruel, they just assume that bunnies are like dogs.

I thought so! I’d never read anything that ever stated it was okay. I was shocked when I saw people putting bunnies in the tub and submerging them! I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy and some new information had come out that proved me wrong before I said something. I will continue to gently inform people if I see otherwise. Thank you!

Yep, you are correct. Bunnies should not be bathed. It isn’t necessary and it certainly isn’t good for the rabbit. There are a few rare exceptions, of course, as Bam mentioned.
