I got a new rabbit last month and she hasn’t licked me once. She is affectionate in every other way, she will follow me around and run up to me for head scratches, from what I understand this means she thinks she is at the top of the hierarchy but is there anything I can do to change that? My last rabbit used to lick all the time and I miss it.

My bun is the same. Some bunnies show affection in different ways. It can also be because it’s only been a month. I’ve had my boy for only four months and he’s like this too. They need like a year to fully trust you and love you. It can also be because of the hierarchy thing. My bun thinks he’s boss. How dare I expect him to lick me? Lol:

Not every bunny licks their owner. There are buns that have been with their owners for years and have never licked them. And it’s not a trainable thing. They either do it or they don’t.

Rabbits do not see people as part of their hierarchy. You are a human so you do not belong in the bunny totem

Most rabbits will not lick their people, unless their people taste particularly yummy

I’ve had my pair for a year and a half and have never received a single lick. My previous bun Bandit however licked me within a month I believe. Some rabbits just don’t lick their humans.

I’ve had both of mine over a year and I’ve only been licked by each once. Evidently, I don’t taste nice lol.

One of my bunnies will literally lick me non-stop, one has never ever licked me in the year that I’ve had her, and one will occasionally. It totally depends on the bunny, and isn’t a behaviour that you can influence.

Ophelia is a licker! But not every bun is, and as the others said it isn’t something that can be taught. Ophelia has times where she just takes snuggles and that’s it, and she has other times where she will just lick attack my face.

Out of the 6 bunnies I’ve had or have, only my first gave kisses. Some do, some don’t.
