Normally my rabbit eats a mix of 70% science selective and 30% fibre first. I ran out of science selective last night, only fed the fibre first because I was lazy opening a new bag of science selective, and also forgot to top up her hay. In the morning I fed the science selective which she dived into but I again forgot to top up her hay until midday. She spent the remainder of the day laying on the litter tray, and a few times it looked like she was constipating and trying to poop. I tried giving her meadow hay and timothy hay and spinach, all of which she refused and just looked like a constipated rabbit.

I went out about an hour ago, bought some mint, she ate a bit and the mint seemed to trigger her appetite and she ate a large handful of timothy and meadow hay, and I finally saw her poop! I read the strong aroma from mint improves appetite, and also bowel movement. It really works!

I’m very glad to hear that your bun recovered well from her stasis scare. It really is so vital to get them eating and sometimes it does just require something different with a strong aroma to really get them interested again

Hay is crucial. Leave a reminder somewhere so you don’t keep forgetting to top up.

It’s very important that they have fresh hay to eat. I’m sure you know this, but as Sara suggested, maybe leave a reminder so you don’t forget. My bun has two litter trays and every morning she gets a fresh pile of hay in each box, and again in the evening before bed. It’s just part of my routine, so I never forget.

Edit: unless I’m working at 5am and my dead brain doesn’t work. Thankfully that has only happened once
