I got my rabbit about 6 months ago. He is a 3 year old bunny that needed to be rehomed. We spent about a month and a half together and he did bond with me. He was never aggressive towards me, expect when it came to food.  He seemed to like me and we didn’t have many issues. He has always been a caged rabbit, and I continued to do that. He would be let out whenever I was home and awake. Then I had to leave for 3.5 months for school and I couldn’t take him with me. While I was gone, my dad watched him and got him neutered (due to issues with him and my dog). He seemed to warm up to my dad quite a bit. I came home for a little over a week for Christmas and tried to bond with him again (expecting to have to start over) but struggled. After Christmas, I went away again for a week and a half. This time it was a family vacation so he stayed at the local kennels that my dog always goes to. He had a room to himself where he couldn’t hear any of the dogs and that kennel is the best in the area, so I know he was treated well.

He’s now living with me in a rental apartment for school. I know it’s only been a few weeks since being home, but I’m really struggling. He grunts about EVERYTHING. He use to just rarely grunt about new people, and that was it. I can’t go near him. While I clean out his cage, he’s under the bed grunting at me. He even grunts at me when I give him treats. I’ve tried just lying on the floor and letting him come to me multiple times, but he won’t even come near me. Since I’m sharing the apartment, he’s only allowed in my room and I have a gate set up. He’s had noise complaints from other tenants in different apartments next to mine from things like flicking his dishes across his cage and scratching the floors. I really want him to be able to free range in my room, but he keeps climbing on my bed to try to get on top of my dresser and chewing on the wood of my bed frame. Again, he never used to be like that. Plus, there’s more poop being found on the floor (and I’m stepping in) then I remember there ever being.

I don’t know if his attitude has gotten worse since the neutering or if it’s just that I left him twice and he’s mad at me, but this is really getting difficult. I don’t know what to do to try and bond again. I’m really starting to regret getting him, and I hate that. Is there anything I can do to try and bond again? Why is he acting like this?

Has he been neutered for awhile now?

Yes, it’s been about 3 months.
