so as some of you may know i have a small farm and i do 4-h but now with the goats and cows and chickens i am doing breeding! so i am getting a new pair of birds tomorrow and i am going to be breeding them i have aa broody hen, or a hen who is ready to hatch eggs and an incubator so i am going to test both of those methods of hatching eggs and then i will have some chicks!! i have an existing hen, misty and she is the same breed, a Belgian bearded D’Anvers so i am going to have some bantam chicks on my hands. i will post pictures of the parents and updates on the eggs waiting to hatch and then pictures of the chicks.
background on chickens:
hens-females
roosters-males
21 days-how long it takes eggs to hatch
chicks-babies!!!!!!
that is just some basics!
chicken is just a RELATIVE term for any gender bird of that species.
That’s so cool!! Show pics asap!!
i will tomorrow!

so the 2 brown ones at the new ones. misty is the grey one. so i would love name ideas for the new ones i like things to do with the forest or water or fire, like misty’s male was names fog. again i would love ideas
Oh man chickens! I used to have pet chickens
they’re so cool <3
thank you!
I really like the brown hen
. Forest names: Dixie, Sequoia
I was thinking because of the forest theme and the fact they’re brown they could be named after trees?
Is that a little too obvious? Haha I kinda like it, so like Alder, Hawthorn, Hazel, Oak, Willow?
Chestnut, Maple, Juniper
Dryad. Puck. Robin Goodfellow.
They’re so pretty
sorry is should have said that my parents made me name them the night we got them the female is Rain and the male is Hickory. my parents wanted to name them Beech and Ash (pun intended)
but i love the suggestions
@bam thanks!
@garfythelop not too obvious at all i was considering willow for the female!
@Luna thank you i really like her too
Rain and Hickory are beautiful names =)
They are. I really those names. My only suggest was Fern. I obviously I like Maple too, because of my bunny, Maple (RIP).
BM, you can save some name ideas for any new hens.
I use to have 2 isa brown chickens called Saffron and Sienna. Jersey used to go down and greet them through the fence every day. : )
i was thinking fern too but it just isn’t her personality, i like maple too. and i will defiantly keep these name as future reference. in other news my incubator is up and running with 2 eggs in it so far. one is most likely from my Red Cochin, the other is most likely from my wheaten Old English Game Hen i also think there is a second egg from the OEG. chickies will most likely hatch on the 21 of February
I owned chickens before! That is great, good for you!
How exciting! Be sure to post some piccies of the chickies
.
signs of life in 3 out of 4 eggs when candled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the egg that i cant see anything in has a thicker seeming shell than the other. i have a fifth egg I’m waiting to put in the incubator until i get another 1.
I will defiantly post pics when the chicks hatch
Aww, so cute.
the first egg is due to hatch on the 21st!
Yay! Can’t wait to see it!
I have always wanted to own chickens, though I know very little about them. I held one once–it was soft. LOL.
Beautiful chickies!
lol chickens are soft. chickens are fun and fairly easy to take care of. thank you they are super dirty now from rolling in mud. seriously.
one of the eggs is hatching another is getting ready to hatch and one is due to hatch!!!!!!! YAY!!!! i will post pictures
How exciting! Wow, you were spot on with predicting the hatching date a couple weeks ago.
lol thank you but, no i wasn’t, an online hatch date calculator was. either way this egg was supposed to hatch tomorrow.

i don’t know if it is a boy or girl yet! but it is adorable. i will post more pictures later
here it is! all fluffy and dry
Omg, So adorable! What a puffy little guy! What breed is he/she?
it is a cochin hen crossed with a Belgian bearded D’Anvers rooster. a second hatched! it isn’t fluffy yet so i will post pictures later

.
