I’ve had my female lion head for about two weeks now. She was a rescues and is aggressive because her past owners weren’t so nice to her. I’ve worked with her to where she’ll approach me and let me pet her. But now she’s been doing this thing that has me worried it looks like teeth grinding but I’m not sure. She’ll move her mouth and every now and then there’s a clicking nose and then she’ll tilt her head up or groom herself or both. She’s been eating all her food including hay and she’s been active and approaches me. Nothing has changed with stool or urine. I could just be an over-worried mother but I want to make sure that she’s okay or if anybody else sees this.

If she’s doing it while you’re petting her, that’s a sign that she’s very much enjoying and she’s relaxed. That’s tooth purring. My boys also have a tendency to tooth pur if they’re just lounging and relaxed.

My bun tooth purrs when he gets pet. He sort of melts into a puddle and clicks his teeth. The clicks can be quite loud.

A bun that tooth grinds due to pain isn’t calmly washing itself. There are other signs of genuine discomfort, like the bun refuses even the yummiest treats, sits all hunched up or withdraws from all interaction.

My bunnies tooth click/grind/purr quite loudly but I know they’re okay because as Bam explained, there’d be other symptoms if the bun was doing so due to pain. I wouldn’t worry
