We know rabbits are very food-oriented, and will do many outrageous things to demand food. Has anyone’s rabbit(s) adopted an odd behavior that they’ve associated with food, treats, or anything else positive?
For example, somewhere along the line, Wick made the association that waiting in the corner under his other parent’s fishing rods is where he must be in order for me to give him a treat on that side of the living room. To no exception, I will be fiddling with the treat bag and he goes there; not out of fear, but out of impulse. So silly. He believes he needs to wait there to get a treat, similar to waiting on the oven mat for his veggies morning/evening veggies.
What are you thinking Wick.

Absolutely for both of my boys! I get up at 5am and the hubs gets up at 5:30. I give them their pellets at 5:30 after the hubs’ alarm goes off. When the first alarm goes off it doesn’t phase them, second alarm goes off they scurry instantly to their litter boxes, stand on their hind legs, and push their faces through the bars. It’s the first thing I see when I enter the room again and turn on the light, is their smooshed up faces.
Both boys also know if they hear the treat bag (or any bag rustling) they hop up on my spot on the bed and will sit there till I sit down. Then they’ll crawl all over me until they get a treat.
Asriel also has a silly one. If he’s staring at you, and you wiggle your fingers, he’ll run over to you and stick his nose under your fingers for snoot rubs.
Bahahaha. Ophelia has learned that if she bites the hubby’s head in the morning that he will kick her off the bed and give her pellets so she leaves him alone xD
Both have learned that the table in their room is where I store their hay, pellets and treats so if I go over to the table or even just walk in that general direction they start running around in circles excitedly
Peanut nips Buttercup when he’s excited so I try and put the food down as quickly as possible and I think he’s learnt that if he nips, he gets a treat faster LOL
Hahahah I wonder why he nips her when he’s excited? That is so silly! Buttercup is probably like “what the hell man?” ![]()

Cos he’s a little s***bag
He used to dig at her butt when excited and that ceased and then he started nipping instead. Poor Buttercup puts up with so much ![]()
If its late at night and I stretch, Blue and Bombur start running laps around the room thinking its time for bed. Time for bed is code for pellets and a refill on hay and water
Blue goes even further with it all. If I look like I have a handful of something, pellets or not, Blue will start honking in circles around my feet so I have to slowly shuffle around the room, lol. If he really thinks I still have his pellets and Im not sharing it, he will stand on his back two feet and stare at me with big ol’ puppy eyes. Almost always when it gets to this point, if I didnt previously have pellets, I will toss a few onto the ground. Way too cute to ignore
When it comes to treats or special greens (greens they dont get as often), Badger will take a mouthful then happily pounce around his pen a few laps before setting it down to eat ![]()
I eat a banana in the morning with my toast, and Thor always demands a piece. But since I always make the toast first, she’s made the association. Now anytime someone toasts bread she runs frantic circles looking for naners ![]()
My boys aren’t bonded so they get separate out-time. When I let out Bindi for his evening out time, I always felt bad for Sterling, since he has to wait his turn so I started giving him a little pile of hay with a floral/herb mix in it. The second he sees Bindi coming out, he FREAKS out….he’s almost jumped out of his pen a few times. I know rabbits are not patient and love food but this guy is very extreme.
Buns are used to getting banana as a treat in the evening so they started associating the sound of the cutting board with banana if they’re awake and get reeeally excited, even if there’s no nana. Fortunately for us, they’ve learned to be more selective but if it’s after they’ve had their run around time AND it’s night AND I’m at the cutting board with something, they’ll usually come right behind me on their hind legs going “MINE MINE MINE”.
Any time I go in their room for ANY reason, they think it’s treat time. They can be quite relentless too and look extremely disappointed when they end up empty handed.
LBJ I can’t leave a disappointed bunny face! I will tell Ophelia no when she follows me in the kitchen and then I’ll walk out and she’s running around me all excited and when I sit down and she gives me that look…almost always have to get back up and throw her a little something ![]()
These are all so funny and cute!
Chewbacca associates my phone alarm with hopping on top of me to lick my face and nom my hair.
Sitting on the toilet means guaranteed ear rubs (hand hangs down perfectly).
The smell of popcorn means shoulder time – make like a parrot, bun! ![]()
Q8: I can just picture Chewie sitting by your feet while you’re on the toilet just staring at you until you rub his ears xD
Love, love, love all of those bunnies! Can’t get over how incredibly cute and intelligent they all are in their unique way. There’s nothing like it. This thread made my day. *Grinning from ear to ear*
BunNoob – It’s hard, but they can’t have a treat all the time. They are chubby enough as it is! I honestly blame my parents because anytime they bunnysit, I think they end up getting whatever they want.
I have overnight oatmeal with banana pretty much every work day and I always share the banana. Chester associated the beep of the microwave with getting banana… as soon as it beeps he’s in the kitchen and begging!

Whenever I open the fridge, Daisy runs straight to it and tries to get inside the drawer. Her matchstick carrots are in there, so its funny to see her run to the fridge, like a little doggy lol ![]()
Mathilda, mine go crazy when they hear our fridge open too.
I normally let Nibbler out while I get her bowl and give her pellets and every day she tries to jump into the bag.
Clover hears my alarm in the morning and knows I’m coming into the living room, so she immediately launches herself into my recliner so I can pick her up and love on her. She literally demands it. Then its climb on Daddy for digging slobbering and sucking on my shirt, binkies around my feet, and then she gets her blueberries. Only 3, because 3 are all she can fit in her mouth at one time.
Bam begs for human food. When we eat dinner he gets on his bunkbed and sits there and looks at us in that really stern, unrelenting way buns look at humans.
He never gets any human food, of course. But hope springs eternal and all that.
@Bam, Garf is exactly the same! Always wants to know what we have for dinner, will come up and have a sniff and you can literally see him turn his nose up and it like ‘blurrghhh this isn’t banana’
Bam doesn’t even have the sense to turn up his nose. I think he’d eat human food if given the chance =/ =D
I can’t even eat a packet of crisps on the sofa without being swarmed by Luna. She’ll stand on my lap on her hind legs to try and get to what i’m eating and tries to snatch things out of my hands. I’m pretty sure bunnies wouldn’t even like crisps, since they’re salty, but who knows. Luna sure thinks that she would.
Bombur has actually stolen a salt and vinegar chip from my husband… and went back for more. Every time there are s&v chips out, Bombur is right there. Asriel does the same thing Luna does too, except he thinks it’s treats xD he’s actually knows where I sit when I give him treats, and if he hears a bag rattling he will run to that spot and get impatient with me for not sitting down immediately.
The first thing I do after work is give Ophelia her salad, so as soon as I open the door she starts binkying around and running circles around me. After a crappy day, that is like THE BEST thing to come home to
…..but then if I try to hang out with her while she’s eating it, she just grunts at me like I am trying to steal her food XD
Panda and Fernando show up like clockwork at the end of the X-pen enclosure nearest my computer chair every evening at about 7:30 pm for their evening oat snack. They’ve learned to recognize the bowl it’s served in (which is actually quite distinctive; their foster mother gave it to me, it’s green with a pattern of rabbit ears and pawprints around it) and even if they’re in their condo they recognize the sound of the oats canister being opened and zoom across to crowd up eagerly at the X-pen fence.
