My rabbit Lola started acting a little sluggish Friday night but was still eating, pooping, drinking, etc. Saturday when I woke up she was still about the same. I had to go to work and figured if she was still the same I would take her to the vet the next day. I got off work that night around 11:30 pm and she was even worse. Wouldn’t move, eat or drink and her eyes had gotten watery. Went online to look at the vets hours and I realized that the next day was Sunday and that they are closed, and that they are closed today, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I’m hoping she will hold out until tomorrow morning. Its the only semi rabbit savvy vet near me. She will only eat kale and I figured giving her a little bit of apple would help her get some fluids. Also gave her water through a syringe. Everyone once in a while she will hop clumsily from one side of the cage to the other. Shes been grinding her teeth a lot and doesn’t pick up her head so I’m sure she is in pain. Is there any pain medication or something that is safe for rabbits? I have baytril left over from when my other rabbit had an infection but its from May of last year. I really hope she makes it through the night. Its devastating seeing her this way

Maybe try tummy massages and simethicone? It could be gas and that could help relieve it.

Be there to comfort her and sending good vibes!!!

Keep monitoring and maybe just pop over to the vet once they open.

I don’t know if Baytril would help if it’s not bacterial. It could upset her stomach as well. Make sure she keeps eating and stays hydrating. You’re doing well, stay strong!

Hmm, not sure about the watery eyes. These don’t sound like the classic gas pain symptoms. You can certainly try some simethicone and tummy massages. If it is gas, then it might help. If it isn’t, then it probably won’t hurt anything. Don’t give the Baytril. Without knowing what the real problem is, it isn’t a good idea to give antibiotics. Plus it could upset her tummy even more. Metacam is safe to use as a pain med, but you need to purchase it from a vet.

Went to the vet and they gave meds. She is too weak to swallow now so I don’t think she will make it ?

They gave her fluids in her back. She’s still the same. Tried giving her critical care and water by syringe but I don’t think she is swallowing. Just does this weird hiccup or gasp. I’m so sad that she has to go through this ? she’s only 4. Been snuggling for 5 hours now.

Did the vet say what was wrong?

He wasn’t specific and since I was on the verge of tears the whole time I didn’t ask many questions. Said her being dehydrated sucked all the moisture from her stomach and turned it into a blob. He doesn’t seem super rabbit savvy but he’s the only small pet vet near me. Took my other rabbit to him twice when he was sick and he got better. Not sure what caused her to stop eating and drinking. She gets tons of hay and a small handful of pellets daily. Sometimes kale and very rarely I give her a dried cranberry as a treat.

Poor thing. What did the vet give you for meds?

The watery eyes and not swallowing is puzzling. Has she pooped at all? Did the vet give her a gut motility drug? ((((Lola))))
