        Hey!

I was wondering if any of you had tips on getting a rabbit to switch their place to use their litterbox.

Wilson had a litterbox, and used it regularly- but also devoured quite a bit of one. I got worried about his health and I then got him a new hutch (I can provide pics if needed!) that has an upper level where he can lay around and hide. However, he’s taken to using this as a large litterbox. While normally that would be okay, its starting to really be an issue, especially since he gets nervous when I have to open it up to clean it. In an attempt to make it less smelly + better for us both, I got a new litter box set up for him…

but he just won’t use it!

He’s notoriously stubborn, but I know he can make the swap. I’ve moved his hay holder to be in the litterbox, to encourage him to use that and go at the same time, but he seems more interested in going allll the way back up into the second floor. He’s peed a little bit in the new litterbox, but isn’t showing much interest in it other than when he’s going in for some hay. I’ve also taken to giving a little layer of hay on top of the litter, which he enjoys, but again, doesn’t stick around for.

        Any suggestions?

What does he normally eat hay out of? I think most people customarily use hay in the litter box at all times? I do. You have to change the litter out often and it can waste a bit of hay as they will dig around in it and poop/pee… but my bunny doesn’t go anywhere but in her box, she even hangs out on my bed all the time and only peed on it once, before she was spayed.

Can you try putting the litter tray on the second floor? And remove the other bedding from the second floor

He normally has a hay-holder that he pulls the hay out of…The issue seems to be that he’s pleased to go and eat the hay in the litter box, but will go all the way into the second floor of the hutch to pee/poop, which has no hay. In the past his litter boxes were always right by his hay, like it is now, and he chose that to pee/poop…for some reason, he won’t!

I’d like to see if he could be comfortable not peeing/pooping on the second floor, because the only way for me to clean it is to take the roof off, which makes him nervous. I’m trying to avoid having to keep scaring him :’D

Oh jeez, I just realized I Didn’t “reply” correctly– my apologies, I’m still new to this!

I’ve still had not much progress with Wilson’s litterbox….except that now he’s hellbent on digging his litter out from the new box lol.
