My rabbits are typical and do not enjoy being picked up. But lately I wonder if maybe my female likes it a little bit. She licks me when I pick her up. I am unsure if it is affection or if it is her way of communicating that she would like to be free please.  I used to think she was licking as a warning to “put me down or I will bite” but she hasn’t bitten me (she did once about 2 years ago but I was mean and picked her up in a blanket, I dont blame her for that one! Mumma had to learn that’s NOT polite!). When I put her down she will thump, so I figured she hates it, but lately on being put down she will lick my feet or come and kiss my face if I have lowered myself to the floor with her. I wonder if she is just extra itchy right now so doesnt mind being held as much. They are a different pressure of lick to when we do cuddle time kisses.

What do you think? Is she saying “I love the cuddles” or “I tolerate you and this is a warning kiss” ?

I’d say the latter than former. Wick licks me when he wants to be put down from being picked up, and will lick me afterwards as a thank you for putting him down.

Poro does the same, but since she tends to snuggle into my jacket and naps for a bit, I’m going to assume they like it.
