Didn’t know where to post this but as the title says, is jute twine safe for buns?

This is something I’ve been researching lately and I’m sure from what I’ve read that it is. Obviously like anything as long as they dont eat large quantities. I’ve actually just purchased a really nice chunky jute rug from Argos at the weekend. I figured it was better than them eating a carpeted rug, they had slowly started nibbling my rug at the edges so I wanted to stop that. I didn’t really want to be without a rug because I have laminate flooring so I figured that was a safer alternative. They have had a few interested nibbles here and there but they seem so be leaving it alone now. This jute is described as 100% natural so I’m sure it’s okay.

Thanks for your input Eddyw111. I’m wanting to use it in some diy toys so some of it would probably be ingested. I’ve got a little bit of sisal twine from eBay but it’s a much smaller quantity than I was expecting. Jute twine I can get on Amazon!

Jute should be safe. Here is an old thread where people talk about using jute twine for bunny toys:

I use it for all my homemade toys because I read it was fine. I got a nice big role from Amazon!

I believe it is safe. I don’t use it, but I got some sisal rope for Ophelia and I cut it into short strings and tie a knot or two in it and sometimes she will chew at the frayed endings or grab it and toss it around!

I don’t think I have any jute items myself, but I’ve never heard that rabbits have any issues with it – I have a sisal rug that does yeoman duty as my buns’ play floor. Be advised, though, if you’re looking for durable items that will stand up to long use by your buns, that sisal is a lot tougher, relatively speaking, than jute.

Thanks guys! Decided to buy a roll of sisal instead – roughly 750 metres of it Should last me a while

As far as I know, yes it is. I see it (and use it myself) on bunny toys

As far as I know, it is safe. I would be wary of stuff from craft stores though. They often treat that stuff with chemicals.

I’ve looked all over the description and it doesn’t say it’s treated with anything, it just says 100% natural so should be okay?

                              Should be fine Sarah!
