We have a rabbit that has what looks like some kind of skin infection that we haven’t been able to get rid of.

It started off with the eye weeping a bit, then slowly expanded to what you see in the picture. It looks like there is some kind of infection that is causing fur to shed.

We tried treating with a variety of anti-infection type treatments – cleaning it and applying ointments.

The vet gave us a steroid injection as well, but that hasn’t seemed to help.

We haven’t been able to figure out what it is, how to treat it, or how contagious it might be. Any thoughts or pointer would be greatly appreciated.

So sorry to hear this!  I’m not an expert on rabbits, but that sounds like rabbit skin mites or something. I can’t see the photo link on your post. Could you try again? I pulled up a few pics of skin mites. Does this look like it?

If it’s in the name of the neck or the bum area, and it look almost like dandruff, then it would be mites. You wouldn’t get a weepy eye with it though, so they could be two different things. You could have an eye problem like conjunctivitis with mites? Mites are super easy to treat. My boys had it back in September and it took one dose of revolution and they were good as new.
