Hey everyone! I am planning on making a C&C cage for my American Fuzzy Lop bunny Thumper. I am going to order the grids off Amazon; however, I have no idea what to do for the bottom. Thumper is 2 years old and is not litter trained. When I build the C&C cage it is going in my room because that is where there is the most space for him to run and play. My room has carpeting though so I wanted to figure out a bottom that won’t leak through to the carpet? There is so much out there and I don’t know what to do! I’ve read up on multiple things and would appreciate any and all advice on the matter! Thank you!

i was thinking of doing a layer of plywood, then vinyl tiles, then puppy pads on that and maybe fleece blankets on that (?) also i’ll use furring strips to connect the grids to the base for extra sturdiness. if anyone can tell me if they think this will work i’d very much appreciate it!

You can use coroplast and add a fleece blanket over it This is what I did for my bunnies. Fleece is very easy to clean and doesnt seem to stain easily (one of my bunnies mark a lot even though hes been neutered for 2 or so years, and none of our fleece has been stained because of his marking like our carpet and previous blankets were). The coroplast will stop it from leaking to the carpet, and the fleece will allow traction and help prevent sore hocks.

I use a spare sheet of lino from when our bathroom was redone. It’s a huge piece so I can curl it up the sides to stop any wall mess too!

thank you so much! do you have any links to some fleece? i wanna make sure i get a good kind! then i will do the plywood, then the vinyl tiles, then use the coroplast with a fleece blanket over that! i really want to make sure he is comfy and happy. he’s such a sweet guy and loves laying with scarfs! he flops and cuddles with them like mad so i think the fleece will work wonders!
