        Hi everyone,
Haven’t been on much since the holidays have been busy. Luke hasn’t had any major issues since his molar grinding a couple months ago. However, every week on around Wed or Thurs, I have noticed that during the day, he switches to sleeping in his box in the bedroom rather than under the living room coffee table as usual. When he is sick, he will hide in a certain box in the bedroom or sit on this shelf in the bedroom.. He hasn’t been in his “sick box” but in a new box near it (bunny box paradise here lol). Usually by Saturday he is back to hanging out under the living room table all day. But this weekend he stayed in his box every day. He wasn’t eating his greens very well for a few days, which isn’t too unusual. He was eating everything else and pooping fine, so I thought maybe he was just reacting to the cold weather or starting a molt. Sunday he began eating his greens better and he pooped a bunch of weird looking fibers, them came out to the living room as usual. I determined he might have been snacking on a the rug I put down so he wouldn’t slip on the hardwoods- its the only rug with longer fibers. Obviously, I took the rug away and figured, problem solved. But today he is BACK hanging out in his bedroom box and even sat on his “sick shelf”. He has been coming to the living room every night, and hopefully he will tonight. I have to work an overnight shift and worry so much!
His eating has been fine- still doing much better with greens with is great cuz when he’s not well, he stops eating greens. Pooping normal. But any change in routine worries me. Its possible that he isn’t coming to the living room because I took away the rug that he used to hop on to get there. He can hop on hardwoods and I put down a folded blanket too though.

Anyone else’s bunny switch up their routine “just because”? I’m concerned that I’m missing something here, but also know I can get very neurotic over Luke. Thanks for any insight!

If that’s the only ‘symptom’ I wouldn’t be concerned. My rabbits like to lay in new places all the time which gave me a fright to begin with but now I know they just feel comfortable enough to lay anywhere.

Bam likes to hang out in lots of different places. But once when he was feeling crappy he went into the bathroom and sat in the shower cabin n and that was definitely not right. My Yohio also hid in weird places when he was poorly. But in those occasions both buns displayed other symptoms like refusal to take a treat.

I often have to go search the apt for Bam. Sometimes I don’t know where he’s been hanging out. He comes when I shake his pellet jar though, but it can take a while if he’s been sleeping deeply.

So if Luke eats and poops and takes a treat and seems well, it’s not a definite sign of illness in a bun to.switch lounging spots.

Has there been changes in noise level or general commotion of the environment? Wick sleeps in his bed in the living room, or on the dresser in the bedroom, depending on where is most quiet. If we get too loud, he’ll wake up, eat hay, and go sleep in the other location.

Thanks for your replies, Wick, Sarah and Bam! About an hour after I posted, Luke emerged from his box and did a whole bunch of “string of pearl poops” all full of some matted, woolly substance. Ugh. I took that rug away from him Sunday night, I’m wondering if that could be the last of the rug fibers? Could it take that long to pass through his system? I’ve searched everywhere for signs of anything else that he could be eating, and the only other thing I found was that he ate a large portion of the inside flaps in his cardboard box. There were some chewed off pieces of cardboard, but most of it was nowhere to be found ?. This rabbit is enough to drive me insane- not that I have far to go! Always before an overnight shift, holiday or weekend- but you all know how that goes.

He has eaten 3 small plates of greens and been plowing through his hay, plus did about 10 more normal poops since his pearl poops, and he isn’t hiding. So that is good. I told my husband to check on him throughout the night, look for poops and offer treats. If he stops eating or pooping, I’ll zoom him to the vet first thing in the morning. I hope he’s not chewing things because his molars are bothering him already! Rabbits are so hard to understand and such a worry- but worth every second ?!

Could it be regular fur string poops, but the fur just seems like a large fiber because it’s wound so much? Wick’s string poops sometimes look more like a tiny plant stem sticking out, but upon prying and opening the poo, it was just fur rotated and twined together.

You could be right, Wick! The stuff is so densely packed that I assumed it had to be carpet or something else unnatural for him to eat, but maybe it is just fur. That would be great ☺. Guess I’ll just hope for the best! He is still not hanging out in the living room tonight, which is very unusual for him, but I’m trying not to get too scared.

I’ll keep you updated! Leaving for work at 9:30 I’m and won’t be home intil about 9am. Good thing my husband is home- I really would call in otherwise!

Update: Just lured the little guy out to the living room. He is happily greeting his stuffed animals- which he does not eat- and checking out the Christmas tree (he thinks it’s his and sits proudly underneath it for hours ?). I think part of the problem was that I took the non-edible rug away and he was afraid to hop across the floor. Even though he has done it hundreds of times. So strange!
