We took my dwarf bunny (who is about 3yrs old) to the vet a few days ago and the vet told us she has a blockage though nothing else seemed wrong to cause it? We’ve been following the vet’s instructions and Hos seemed to be getting better before yesterday. She’s been just laying in her cage and getting so fragile it scares me to pick her up. I’ve been feeding her mushed baby food carrots (like the vet said to do) every three hours through syringe and making her drink some water the same way but she’s not improving. She’s been pooping a tiny bit (nowhere what she needs to) and it’s like sludge. The vet gave meds to help her get to pooping but it isn’t helping? I’ve put some warm towels for her to lay on (due to she stays in the living room and it’s chilly out here) and she appears to like them as she’ll kinda crawl over to lay on them.
I have no idea what more I can do for her and my parents are talking about putting her down in the morning, but I just- well I just want to do all I can to get her back healthy. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I got her to actually drink some water out of the syringe (about ~20ml) not where she needs to be but it’s a start and she didn’t spit this one out.
I fed her some of her baby food, but she didn’t take in much.
I would suspect fur blockage due to the time of year, or a calcium blockage due to excess calcium. Either way, if it’s late enough, I believe a surgical procedure is the only way to remove them. I’m not experienced in this matter so I cannot say for sure.
Sending good vibes and I hope someone else can provide some insight. Best wishes.

Fur blockage would make since, due to she sheds a lot, but I try to brush her once every month so it keeps her from shedding too much. My parents refuse to pay for surgery on her due to the vets here charge so much and we can’t afford it. She did eat some lettuce (her favorite food of all time) but she’s still so frail.
It’s good you’ve been able to get some fluids and food into her. It must not be a full blockage otherwise the vet wouldn’t have advised feeding. So maybe it’s partial and there is a chance it can break down with help of fluids.
If she is feeling cold, her ears feel colder then usual, be sure to help warm her up. Holding against your own body heat can really help with that.
Are the meds you have from the vet to help get the gut moving? Or is it for pain? Both?
Sending some {{{healing vibes}}} !
For future situations, because I’m rooting for your rabbit to get through this, you should groom your rabbit daily during high shedding periods.
Again, sending vibes!!

Okay if she can make it through this I’ll be sure to groom her tons (as she likes being brushed I’m sure she’ll love it)! The pet store we got her from told us to groom her monthly, but they told us she was a boy also when she was proven to be female when we took her to the vet. They have her on some clear meds labeled “CC” and I’m supposed to give her 0.3ml every 8 hours. I’m hoping she gets better she’s been kinda laying down and doesn’t want to move much.
I’m so terrified because she started gritting her teeth and making gagging type sound(?) I’ve never heard her doing those, I know she grits her teeth from time to time when she’s mad at me. I’m terrified she may be in pain becasue whenever I pick her up (and I do so super gently because I’m scared I’ll hurt her) she lets out a small squeak.
I don’t want her to be in pain.

I don’t understand your parents – they agreed to have a rabbit yet refuse to pay for vet care? Absolutely disgraceful. If you don’t want to pay for a vet or if you can’t afford a vet, don’t take on the responsibility of animal ownership.
I hope she pulls through. Groom her as much as you possibly can. Push hay consumption and water.
Well, we got her about three years back before my stepdad lost his job and we could afford it then, which is why they got me her. We’ve just fallen on hard times and can’t spare the thousand+ to pay for the surgery. She drank a bit more water but hasn’t eaten any hay as of yet, no matter how hard I try.

I’m sorry I was so harsh. That was unfair. If she does end up needing surgery, do you think the vets would accept a payment plan?
No, I’ve asked him and we only have one rabbit certified doctor around here and he charges a lot for any type of care (mainly because he’s the only one so we have no choice but to pay).
She’s not able to stand up on her own anymore and keeps grinding her teeth and letting out small squeaks. I’ve taken her out of their cage and am sitting on the couch with her and loving on her.
Keep her very close and love her if you absolutely cant go to a vet. Try petting her ears and talk to her in a soft voice. It can bring her some comfort.
Great news is mom said granny will help us pay for the medical care, so we’ll have her looked at and prepared. She’s eaten some lettuce and drank a bit more water but she’s still not looking good.
That’s great! Try to get her booked into the vet ASAP!
That’s great news, she really does need a vet!
That’s lovely news! Keeping my fingers so crossed for her!
Did the vet take an x-ray? Instead of the baby food, do you think your vet will give you some critical care to syringe feed her with? I hope she gets better soon
. Sending vibes.
I’m sad to inform y’all Hasenpfeffer has passed away. The vets took her vitals and said she wouldn’t survive the surgery so we had to put her down. RIP little Has, I loved you so much. <\3
I’m very sorry that Hasenpfeffer couldn’t be saved. Please thank your granny for helping you get her to the vet. It very obvious you loved your little bun and tried your very best to take care of her. Now she’s at rest and there is no more pain.
Binky free ***Hasenpfeffer****
I’m so sorry Hosenbunny. You really did everything you could for her. She knows you will always love her.
Binky free Hasenpfeffer
