I’ve been hearing a lot recently about rabbits and telling their temp by feeling their ears. What if I’m not able to take a rabbit’s temp with a themometer and stick it through their thing like normal? Can I check by feeling if their ears are cold or hot?  Is that a reliable way? And also, if my bunny’s ears are just randomly cold or hot without expressing any pain or discomfort does that mean they are fine?

Changes in their ear temp are normal with the air temp, but if it’s extremely warm or cold, then there’s an issue. When Bombur had enterotoxemia his ears were like ice, and I had to keep him bundled the entire car ride. They kept him in a heated ward. When his allergies act up his ears get pretty warm too.
Usually though, at least where I am, their ear temp matches the surrounding temp in the room.

Thank you! Yes, I’ve noted the same thing about the temps of both the ears and the rooms. There are only a few times where his ears are freezing or burning but that lasts for a couple minutes and goes away. Not something often. Thank you so much.

I’d be concerned if the ears were extremely cold or extremely warm. If they’re not at either extreme, and are acting fine I wouldn’t be worried.
