This morning I woke up to feed Lily and noticed that she was sitting in a strange hunched up position and she looked like she was in pain. She let me pet her and pick her up, but when I tried giving her, her veggies and pellets she kept turning her face away and wouldn’t eat which is unlike her. I decided to take her to the vet and the vet tells me that she is in the beginning stages of stasis and recommends sub Q fluids and Metoclopramide 3x a day and critical care. So, fast forward we are home, and I’ve given her the medicine (which was a struggle), but she is refusing to eat the critical care. She is eating some parsley and a little bit of hay, but fights me so hard and runs if I try to give her the critical care. I’m super nervous, why won’t she eat it? Would baby food be more appetizing for her? I’ve heard some people recommend that. I’m worried if she doesn’t eat the critical care that she won’t get better.
Also, I noticed that her belly was looking a little saggy/flabby on the right side? I called the vet and they said it was because of the fluids and that it should go away in a few hours.
Please, if anyone could give me some guidance on how I should move forward at this point. (I still haven’t seen any poops) and if I should just hold her down to force feed critical care, but I really hesitate to do that because I don’t want to break her trust in me. Other then still not eating much she seems to be acting normally now. I saw her do the bunny flop a few times and she is doing her regular activities, but I’m worried she’s going to take a turn for the worse if she doesn’t eat the critical care.
It’s also the holiday weekend so the bunny vet is going to be closed until Tuesday, so that’s why I’m extra worried about the whole situation.
Sorry for the super long post, but if anyone that’s been through this before could give me some guidance and support right now I would really appreciate it. TIA.
