Hi, I’m planning on getting a rabbit next year. Plan on getting a female one but I don’t think I will be able to spay her since I live in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and there are no rabbit-savvy vets around my area. I was wondering what is the lifespan of an unspayed bunny rabbit and if she is able to live a healthy and happy life? She is going to be living alone, indoors in a 140×80 cm pen with requent out of the pen playtime and interaction. I am new to this and have been doing research for weeks, I really hope for this to go well. Thank you for taking the time to read and answer this
*will be getting her from a pet store, most probably going to be a mixed breed (yes I have tried all the shelters and online adoption sites but Malaysia is really just a sucky country.)

Hi! Did any of the shelters have buns who were already spayed? As for health, the lifespan of an unspayed bun is generally shorter than that of one who is spayed (though by how many years I’m not sure). Unspayed buns have a 80-85% chance of getting uterine cancer, and are most at risk after the age of 3 years old. As for happiness, in my opinion, an unspayed bun can still live contently. However, buns are social creatures and she won’t be able to live with any other buns as long as she is unspayed because fighting will occur. Also, it is very likely that her hormones will result in poor litter habits and other destructive behaviors. But if you are willing to spend plenty of time with her and give her tons of mental stimulation, and bear through her hormonal behaviors, then she can still live a happy life .
