Alfie loooves to dig so I try to set stuff up for him to dig. I have a cardboard box that he can dig paper out of and I’ve got fleece blankets too. The only issue is that while he digs he ALWAYS pees. I’ve had to throw away a few seagrass mats already because he peed all over them and ruined them. Is there anyway to change this behavior or train him to stop peeing while digging? or is it just instinctual and something that won’t go away? He’s not neutered yet but will be next month !

It will more likely go away when neutered. When digging, he’s creating a small pocket for himself, and peeing adds a layer of “this is mine”, so it is a territorial-tied activity. You will not be able to train it out of him. Wick still does this occasionally, so I always need to watch when he’s digging in my bed.
