Hey guys I apologize if this is a repeat anywhere.

I am wonder what your experiences are with multiple buns. I have a pure bred netherland dwarf who is 1.5lbs (Odin) He is about 1.5 now and a not so pure dwarf who is 2.7lbs (Chaplin) who will be turning 1 year old next month. They are both fixed. At first these lil guys got along fantastic cuddled and everything but in the past couple months I have notice Chaplin will nip and Odin now an then. Odin has also become more timid. Also they are free buns in a bedroom all to them selves lots of tunnels, ramps, a bunny maze and they even have their own couch.

What I am getting at is I am wondering your experience of multi buns if I added another pure dwarf into the mix more Odins size if that would help him get out of his shell a bit (do they like to live in packs more?) or could it make things worse and everyone just bullies Odin!? Also if i did get a third bun if it should be male or female considering I have 2 boys right now (regardless bun #3 would get fixed)

Anyways please share you opinions or any advise you have I am looking for as much info as I can get before fully considering a third little hopper.

        Thanks,

Nipping is acceptable. Nipping is how they communicate what they do and do not like. It could be “I dont like that youre sitting there” or “Move, I want to play on that”, or even “Youre too close, move.”. Its not bullying by any means

Dont get a third bun until you feel comfortable with your current pair and make room in case you end up with three single bunnies. Adding a third can cause a pair to split, and theres no guarantee any of them will bond. If your pairs bond breaks and they refuse to bond to the new bun, you have to have enough room, time, and money for all three of them to still live quality lives as single bunnies living under the same roof.

I had a trio of males for about a year. Separated only due to one rabbit being disabled and needing a completely different diet and exercise routine.

Ah thank you for your response. Is the nipping still acceptable if sometimes Chaplin takes little fur patches out of Odin? Never breaking skin just sometimes little tufts of fur get pulled out?

I definitely have the space for a third but it would be great if these two could be bonded again. Ever experience maybe when they get older they could bond? Or do they have stubborn attitudes that stick haha

Nope, that would be a bite not a nip. Nips are quick and light. Theyll never break skin and should never take fur (unless the nipped bun is shedding). A bite is a little more drawn out and often is coupled with pulled fur and/or broken skin. Nipping is acceptable, biting is not.

I would try some stress bonding. It sounds like theyre almost completely bonded, but might need a little nudge What are you doing for bonding sessions between the two?
