Arrrrrgh. I’m questioning whether I should quit with veggies altogether. When buns were temporarily off veggies, I heard no gurgling whatsoever. I know its normal to hear some if you put your ear right against their tummy but I’m talking about being able to hear gurgles when just sitting with them. I heard nothing.

We started reintroducing veggies very slowly. They were okay with cos lettuce, coriander, carrot tops, dill and thyme. Tried kale last week and heard a little gurgling two days in a row so cut that out. Since then (so last week and a half) I’ve heard some quiet gurgling every day between 10am and 1pm. They get veggies between 6 and 7am. It’s nothing too loud and there’s no other symptoms but I’m worried that veggies are causing some sort of tummy troubles which could lead to stasis again. As I said, I know quiet gurgling is generally seen as okay but I heard nothing when they were veggie-free. I’ve tried cutting the portion way down and simplifying it – just cos and dill and then either carrot tops or coriander but nothing seems to be the culprit. I don’t want to overreact but I don’t know what to do.

If it when you give them the veggies I’d cut them out all together and possibly talk to Your vet about it and see what they say?

Do you know anything about the gurgling when the have stomachs issues ? My bunny has a sensitive stomach and I changed his food which causes this issue. My vet said to put him back on the food I used before but I’ve been hearing gurgling sounds since I gave him the metrodiazole. Is it normal for this to happen when taking them off a food that made them upset? PleSe and thank you

That is stressful, especially as yours are prone to bouts of stasis.
Veggies are an important part of rabbits diet though…

I don’t know if this helps but my girl has a strange tummy (several vets have all agreed from 5 clinics)
And none of them can see anything wrong other than her tummy is really slow, and really loud. I can hear it gurgling away, which worries me, but there’s never any problem.
So maybe yours have something similar?

Sorry to hear this Sarah, these buns don’t quit giving us one thing or another to worry about! Have you tried giving only one type of veggie one week, then another the next week etc?

Maybe having more then one (just two?) Is too much variety?!

FYI I grow grass in pots on my window sill, and I’m about to try and grow dandelions, plantain, nasturtium and cornflowers (indoors on my window sill – so please wish me luck) because I’m trying to get more forege foods into my fluffpot… What about something like this?

This advice is completely premature because I have no idea yet if they’ll sprout and grow… but what the heck.

It’s really stressful indeed, this is the longest Buttercup has gone without a stasis episode so I’m hyper alert. I’m also extra worried because I’m going in to hospital after Christmas. At the mo, if they have any tummy troubles, i’m here to encourage hay eating, get them moving and generally make sure they’re okay. My partner works full time so if anything happens with their tummies, no one will be here to help them I’m on the fence, on the one hand neither bun shows any other signs of discomfort but on the other hand, I don’t want to overlook it and something bad to happen. I’ve skipped veggies for the last 2 days and no gurgling so far. I’m so torn.

I could always try just one veggie per week. Maybe cos/romaine one week, then just carrot tops the following week etc. That would be worth a go!

It’s funny you mention forage actually, as that’s something I plan to introduce in the new year. I want to give as much variety as possible and I figured foraging foods are something they’d naturally eat so maybe their tummies are better developed for it?! I already give them dandelion which they go mad for, I buy it though as I’m not very good at growing plants haha! Good luck!

I used to feel bad about it, but I realize he really doesn’t care. Wick only gets romaine lettuce as a veggie. It’s probably best that way since he’s on meds so frequently as well. He gets his excitement from other things, like me forcing him to eat pellets by rolling them out of a ball… Haha.

If one veggie type for a period of time helps, I think it’s a great solution.

Some buns’ tums simply cannot tolerate fresh greens. If you determine that this is indeed the case, you could try to offer a greater variety of dried greens. Buy fresh and air dry them upside down yourself, even. It’s not ideal, but if you happen to have a wabbit with a sensitized GI that doesn’t respond to conventional therapies, it’s an option.
