Regardless of gender, you actually need to separate your rabbits. Once they become hormonal, the instinctive need to potentially fight to the death can happen in a split second, in addition to the risk of pregnancy.

Please read the bonding information found on this website (Bunny Info section, not in forums). It shows the steps you’ll need to go through after your rabbits have been fixed and you wait for a month.

It’s difficult to gender a rabbit that young. You may need to wait a bit longer so a rabbit vet can find out during an exam.

Also, since this is your first time, I’d say it’s a requirement to read everything in the bunny info section.

Definitely go ahead and separate your bunnies now. It doesn’t matter if they are the same gender or if they have been together since birth, because when puberty hits, everything changes. If they stay together, you are risking fighting with severe injuries possible, plus you will certainly be faced with a litter of bunnies if you have a male and a female.

I would suggest that you take them to the vet for a check up, and they’ll be able to help out with gender. Whenever I get a new bunny, I always make a vet appointment for the first couple of weeks, just to make sure they’re healthy, get them weighed, get their gender identified, have a chat about diet etc. Depending where you live, they might also need vaccinations.

It’s also important to establish a relationship with a good vet, so you know immediately where to go if there’s an emergency

Yes, they need to be separated. Bunnies start to mature sexually around 12 weeks, and they’ll get territorial and start fighting. You should separate them now, regardless of sex. Then bring them to the vet and try to determine. Both rabbits must be spayed/neutered before you can bond them

Wow thank goodness you guys told me! I thought it would be fine since they were born together and seems like they have a great relationship. Thank you for all the replies!

Sadly pretty much all baby bunnies get on, and have beautiful happy little relationships. The problem is, it’s hard to know at what point hormones will kick in and lead to a fight. Some it’s 8 weeks, some its 12, and some never happen at all, but it’s definitely better to separate them while they’re still good friends (even though that feels really mean!), then they have a great chance of bonding again when they’re older.

You can keep them in hutches next to each other, with about 10cm of space between them so they can’t reach through the bars

It’s great that you’re so willing to listen to advice, i’m sure your bunnies will have a great life with you

                        Hi Belleloves
I got your attached photos to show now.

My money is on them both being boys but it’s a bit hard to tell.

Not the best pictures. Pictures from the side are better. That being said, they look like boys to me as well. I wouldn’t put all my money on it though.

I agree about separating them before they reach puberty. Baby bunnies love and get along with anyone. But that can all go out the window once hormones kick in. It’s better to play it safe.
