Hello! My name is Natalia, I have a mini lop bunny, his name is Olaf and he is 3 months old.

In the past few days he gets this weird brown thing underneath his mouth and I don’t know what it is… At first, I thought it was poo and I tried to remove it but it seems that hurt him and he didn’t want me to touch it, however, I removed it. The day after I removed it, it showed up again, I removed it again, but it was the same today. Could you possibly tell me what it is because I am very worried? I’ve read thousands of articles about rabbit abscesses but I don’t think it is an abscess…

Thanks! (sorry if I have a lot of mistakes)

Hi Natalia! Thanks for providing photos.

I don’t readily recognize this, but if it’s something that keep re-appearing despite removal, my suggestion is 1) stop removing it, and 2) see a RABBIT vet and have this checked. It could very well be some sort of pre-existing condition your rabbit had before you received him and is now manifesting. The negative thing about consistently removing it is, if it’s something that can spread, removing it may release toxins in or out of the area, making it worse. It could be something consistently leaking out of him that needs to be professional removed and sterilized.

Are you able to see a rabbit vet before the holidays? I think this is wise. Again, stressing it must be a rabbit vet, not a dog/cat vet.

Hmm… it’s hard to tell. Is there anything underneath it when you remove it? Like a hole in the skin? A sore spot? Anything nasty looking? Or is it simply in the fur and not attached to the skin?
