I haven’t tried to clip Lola’s nails in months as when I first tried she freaked out, bit me twice (didn’t break the skin) and scratched like crazy. As her pen is setup over concrete her nails aren’t super long as they get worn down but I would like to trim them to a more manageable length. She’s such a cuddle bum who is great sitting on my lap, doesn’t mind her belly touched or her chest rubbed and will sit for scritches and cuddles for hours but the second I hold the paws she’s done with me. I use the technique pinned (with the video on cutting nails) for Cotton and he just sits there like a good little rabbit but it hasn’t worked for Lola.

She’s really big and weighs 16.something pounds so if she want’s to go it’s had to keep hold of her. I’ve called my vet about getting nails trimmed and I’d have to pay the $55 for the appointment and then the $15 for the nail cut. $70 just seems a lot to just get a nail cut and I’d much rather do it at home.

        Any tips? Advice? Thanks!

For Luna, I put a towel on the kitchen table and place her on the towel. She stays pretty still because of the unfamiliarity of the room and the height of the table. Just be careful your bun doesn’t jump off the table because she could hurt herself.

Its weird that she doesn’t mind her belly being touched but freaks out about paws! Perhaps you can start desensitising her to her paws being touched, just gently picking them up while shes sat on your lap, then giving her treat.

But for immediately, is there someone that can help you? Cutting all of my bunnies’ nails is a two person job. Someone holds, and someone cuts.

Hmm I’ll try to start holding her paws more often to get her used to it. I was thinking of trying to clip her nails while she’s eating her pellets as she get pretty focused on food and may not notice as much if a snip a nail or two. So far I haven’t found anyone willing to help me with her nail clips but I’ll try and convince someone

I just wanted to add that I love your bunnies names! Your PP is such a cute one.

That’s crazy that you have to have an appointment (+ pay for it) and pay for the claw clipping! I would have suggested having a vet do it but my goodness. I definitely second it being a 2-person job. Can you bunny burrito her and then poke one foot out at a time?
