It appears this is more commonly used for dogs. It contains an antibiotic, polymyxin B (this is one of the antibiotics used in neosporin ointment). It also has steroidal anti-inflammatory, prednisolone and an antifungal med, miconazole.

Edit to add:  I’ve never used surolan but I found these old threads on Binky Bunny where it was mentioned. If you are looking through them, just remember not to post reply in any of these old threads.  I had to give my lops ear drops this year. One was prescribed Otomax. I cannot recall the name of the other med.

Knock on wood, but ive never had a problem with either bun and this is the first time ive had to deal with anything like this..

I would use caution using that, particularly because it contains a steroid.

Honestly, I would ask them about it. There are other things that could be prescribed that don’t carry the health risks. Heavy breathing is actually a side effect of steroids. You typically hear about it in dogs, but I’m sure the same goes for rabbits.

Yikes, so his fast breathing could be because he’s in pain and stressed out or because of the antibiotics!? I’m stressing out, he’s drinking water out of a bowl that I have to bring to him cause he refuses to move from his spot, but he won’t eat any pellets or hay… I’m freaking out right now…

Not the antibiotic, the steroid. It could be the steroid, or he could be stressed out. It’s hard to know. I just know that long-term use of steroids have adverse effects in rabbits and most vets are hesitant to use them even short term. There are just a few cases where they might be helpful (for example, a spinal injury). I’m not sure what the short term side effects are. In other animals, it simulates things like thirst and appetite. So I’m not sure why he isn’t eating. He could be stressed out from the whole ordeal and/or in pain. I wouldn’t think the ear drops alone would do that. But there’s obviously something wrong, so you should see a vet ASAP.

Will he eat anything if you hand it to him? Is he displaying any symptoms of belly discomfort?

He’s been drinking a lot of water when I bring him the water bowl, there’s no sign of discomfort in his belly area, he just went to the washroom, and I saw him eating little bits of hay.. and his breathing has calmed down ALOT, thank god… he’s snoring away and dreaming of eating something lol… but I’m still going to keep a watchful eye on him tonight!

Oh good! Glad to hear it. I was going to say that if he’s seems to have a stomachache, you could give him some simethicone and do some belly massages. No need to though if he’s eating something and pooping now. You don’t want to stress him unnecessarily.
