Reglan causing soft/smelly poop, here’s the story, my four year old spayed lionhead has mucus on her poop, took her to vet and they classified her as possible GI Stasis. I have been giving her, her medicine, it tells me to give her the reglan ever 8 hours and the pain every day. Some of her poops have been sticking to her fur and it smells. Could it be the medicine? Should I take her to the vet? She’s eating perfectly fine.

Reglan is a gut motility drug that helps move the stomach content through the intestines. There’s often sticky poop/blobs of poop after a bout of stasis when the intestines start up again. It can take 2 weeks for the tummy to stabilize itself and poop to go back to normal.

If she’s eating perfectly fine I’d say she’s on the mend. You can give her a butt bath if there’s lots of poop stuck to her rear, but if it’s only a little bit you can let it dry and pick it out with your fingers.

Reglan and pain meds are great for GI stasis. Mucus isn’t a typical finding in stasis though. Has the mucous poop stopped?
