Joy has been home for a few hours now after her spay and she is drinking water like crazy. I read it is normal for bunnies to not eat or drink but I feel like she is going overboard with drinking now! Any ideas as to why?

That seems unusual. It would be enough for me to ring the clinic and ask about it.

Do you have a thermometer you can take her rectal temp with?

Nope I don’t. Vets office opens at 8 in the morning, I will call them first thing.

How is she acting otherwise? Is she moving about somewhat? Going over to the bowl or has she planted herself right next to it?  Were you given some pain/anti-inflammatory meds to take home?

She is moving around just a bit, went tinkle a few times but hasnt eaten anything. They put a cone on her but she seemed very annoyed by it so I took it off while I am in the same room as her. They gave me pain and antibiotics to start her on tomorrow morning. I did notice she was grinding her teeth pretty loud on and off. I wonder if the pain meds they gave her is wearing off.

I wonder if they gave any water while she was waiting for op.
They didn’t ask you to fast her before the procedure, did they?

Not sure why theyve given antibiotics. Maybe some vets do.. My girls never had that after a spay.

Im not sure if they gave her water while she waited. No she didn’t fast and they said she ate a bit and drank water right after she woke up (so maybe they had water for her beforehand also).

I asked them what the antibiotics were for also..they said in case she sits/lays in her litter box, they dont want it infected.

Did your bunnies have to wear the cone?

No, they didnt have a cone. Neither the boys or the girls. But I have seen plenty of members here also bring their rabbits home with a cone on. If it’s a plastic cone, it can sometimes help to trim it back a bit.

Its a bendable material but I have a feeling its going to be a long night for her with it on!
