I have a four year old male rabbit and his pee which is orange for some reason is starting to stay on his bottom. I don’t know if he’s having problems urinating or if he’s just sitting in his pee for a long time. Should I give him a butt bath? (It is the bottom of his tail)

He could have a UTI, so you might want to get it checked out. Does he ever sit in his own urine? For example, if I’m cleaning the litter boxes he has a tendency to just pee in the corner and then just sit and wait till the box is back. His entire bottom ends up covered in urine.

You can give him a butt bath. Pat him dry after or use a hair dryer on a low setting, so he doesn’t run around with a wet butt and get cold.

If he is wet with urine it could mean he has a UTI or that the litter you’re using doesn’t absorb the pee well enough or fast enough.

Orange pee is normal in rabbits. It’s often from carotenoids (plant pigments) in the food, but it can also occur spontaneously. If his fur is a light color the pee stains could perhaps be more visible because the pee is orange?

Sometimes older buns get a little stiff in the back/hips so they can’t reach to clean themselves properly.

He seems to like sitting in his litter box a lot. He seems otherwise healthy. What are the symptoms for having a UTI and is it possible for elder buns to have stuff hips or legs without getting arthritis? He also seems to like digging trash cans. Is there any way I can discourage that?
