I know it can look very distressing to see your rabbit like this. However, their brains do sort of adjust and the manage normal actvities even with their head in an odd position.

It can take some time to treat head-tilt and some rabbits can have a bit of a permanent tilt left but live normal lives. Quality of life need be assessed case by case but I do think it is rather early for your vet to suggest euthanasia. It’s unfortunately not uncommon for them to do so. But with some time, rabbits can come through this. When my own rabbit had this and lost balance and was rolling, the vet also mentioned euthanising too. It was something I knew I might have to do but I wanted to do treatment for a month as I had heard of other rabbits needing at least that. My rabbit was coping okay and we persisted. She did fully recover. 

How long a course of Baytril was prescribed? Sometimes a 4-6 week course is needed.
The vet was 100% sure this is ear infection? There are other causes for head-tilt (torticollis).

Sorry to hear your bun is having trouble.

It would be unusual for bub to have EC as he is never outside and does not have contact with other rabbits.

Some buns are EC carriers and never show any symptoms. Others have symptoms flare up all of a sudden. My boy, Bindi, suddenly started with a slight tilt and nystagmus. I brought him to the vet the same day. The vet suspected EC and opted not to do the test as the results are not very accurate. She instead decided to start him right away on Fenbendazole. He was right as rain in about 2 weeks. The sooner treatment starts, the more likely the results will be positive. I can’t say whether your bun has EC or not, just wanted to share my experience.

While every case is different in regards to quality of life and a rabbit’s ability to adjust, I will say ginnyrabbit is a fine example of a rabbit who, surviving the virus, has a permanent head tilt, yet still lives happily.

Again, ginnyrabbit is fully recovered, while your lovely bun bun is still in treatment. What will happen is unsure, but if you and him stay strong and recover, there may be a better resolution than what you’re imagining.

Just want to send some ((((Hugs)))). I’ve only dealt with a slightly tilted bun, I can’t imagine how hard this is to deal with for you.

To be honest. it sounds like he’s managing pretty well and attempting normal bunny things. I know it is so difficult to see them like this.

I personally believe it doesn’t hurt to continue with anti-inflammatory/pain meds longer. Could you see if the vet will allow some more metacam?

When Maple had head tilt, I syringe fed water but mainly used greens to keep her hydrated. They are something you can peg up on side of cage or pen so the rabbit can get to them with their head at odd angle. Or put in a hay rack. Some will pick if up from floor as usually too, though it can cause them to lose balance.
