So this all started the other day when my rabbit was hopping out of her open cage and her legs got stuck between one of the bars. Her little body kind of face planted onto the ramp but she quickly got herself out and ran into the living room. I checked her out then watched her behavior and she seemed fine. She was hopping on the couch, binkying, eating, pooping, ect.
The next day I let her out again and she kept shaking her head like something was in her ear and her one ear was just kind of off. Her ears were no longer centered when they should be and they no longer matched. If I rubbed the ear that was off center she would get really irritated, shaking her head again and digging into her ear as if something was inside of it. She continued to eat and drink like normal, moving about and so forth. I decided to give it one more day before I got concerned but the following day her ear was the same, just off as if it was bothering her. I called the vet and scheduled an appointment.
When I took her to the vet I had them to a full physical examination because I’m not sure how much the ears of a rabbit are related to other parts of their bodies and also she had that fall the other day so I wanted to make sure everything was okay. The vet looked into both ears and found absolutely nothing. She checked her teeth, they were perfect. Her mobility was great, her legs were strong and she could do complex movements like cleaning herself. The vet checked her back and there was a spot on her back side that seemed to be bothering her. When the vet touched this spot she seemed to be in pain, pulling away and tending up. My vet ordered for my bun to be on bed rest for the next week, so no leaving her cage or jumping, ect.
So far it’s been two days and my bunnies ear is still completely off! I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on why her ear is off or what could be wrong with her, any similar experiences? If her ear is off and bothering her but she’s still living a completely normal life, happy with an appetite and playing ect should I continue to look into the issue or should I just let it go?
