  We received a call this afternoon from a friend of a friend that said they found a rabbit that a neighbor had “set free” in the wild a few days ago. We received the call because we have a house rabbit. I generally like to research everything fully before taking a leap, but this just sprang up.
  
  We have no history on the new rabbit, other than it was in a house and the family no longer wanted it and put it outside. It was outdoors a few days before being found. The rabbit looks ok and is pretty friendly. We have provided it Timothy Hay, some plelets (Oxbow) and water in a bowl. We are keeping the bunny isolated until we get it to the Vet on Monday.
  
  Anything else I need to consider/do at this point?

  It seems you have it covered. Isolation is important for the sake of the other rabbit. 2 weeks is considered appropriate, but since you’re seeing the vet on Monday, they will tell you if or how to proceed with quarantine.

  He is still doing well this morning. We are 99% sure the rabbit is male, but will wait for the vets confirmation. We heard he was probably an Easter gift last year. This fits with his appearance. He’s been eating a lot, and I was giving him all he wanted, but have taken the pellets away as he was very fond of them and wasn’t eating a lot of hay.
  
  So my next step is getting him to like the same hay Lucy likes. Lucy was very finicky when it came to hay and only likes Sierra Valley hay. I’m hoping he will like the same hay.
  
  I was worried that he may have picked up something living outside for those few days, but haven’t seen any strange itching or bugs. He actually doesn’t scratch himself at all, so I’m hoping everything is good there.
  
  I’m making the kids change their clothes (along with the traditional hand washing) after handeling the new bunny. Is that being too cautious or should I keep that up until we get to the vet on Monday?
  
  Also – the rabbit seams to hold its head more to one side. It’s not in pain or anything, but it seams a little odd to me. I don’t think it’s anything, but will definitly ask the doctor.
  
  Anyway, once we get him checked out and fixed, I’ll definitely be asking for advice on assimilating the rabbits. Lucy has the run of the house and is fairly skittish. I’m hoping it’s not a difficult transition.

  Thank you for taking in this bunny. So sad people still think pet bunnies can survive on their own.
  
  If it were me, I would ask the vet go give him a dose of Revolution, regardless of if you see anything or not. That will take care of any nasty parasites he may have picked up outside.
  
  I would probably keep up the washing and changing, but I’m pretty paranoid about stuff like that. We had foster kittens in our laundry room and I would take off all my regular clothes and put on my “kitten clothes” in the laundry room before handling them. Maybe a bit much, but if you are a worrier like me, better to take the extra step.
  
  Are you planning on keeping this bunny or finding him a new home? Regardless, you are awesome for taking him in.
