My almost 2yr old spayed bun is litter trained. She has lived with me for 3 months. Over the past week she has been going up on the sofa and leaving 15-30 poops and her urine. She is litter trained and uses her box however if and when she gets the chance she will use the sofa (but not the matching love seat). What can I do to help? I’d like to keep her free roam but I can’t keep shampooing my sofa of course. So she is in her expen again. How can I deter this habit??

Well first question I ask is she full on peeing on the sofa, or is it just little dribbles? Because Dawn loves to sleep on the couch here with her big sister, and when they both sleep, they “leak” pooples. Sometimes Dawn also leaves little pee spots, because, I think, she’s still trying to assert dominance over Clover (Who outweighs her by 12 lbs. or so.) Is there a specific time she pees?

As always, it’s recommended that you collect the poops and put them in her litter box, and spray the pee with vinegar and water to kill the scent.
Other than that, you might need to monitor her to see when she goes for her pee time on the couch, correct her and relocate her to her pan. If she’s doing it at night, she might be doing it because she resents being away from you. Hope it helps.

Some of the poops I toss into the litter tray but majority I throw out. She’s full on urinating up there. It’s been quite a hassle. We had a guest sleep on the couch- she climbed to the back and sat and left 50+ poops. I was mortified. The urine rolls down the back and onto the floor.
How do I correct her when she blatantly does this in front of us?
