My little 19-month-old male dwarf bunny recently got in the habbit of destroying everthing. He was really destructive before, but this past week he’s gone bonkers with it. It’s mostly when he’s in his cage. He’ll dig and dig and dig at his fleece all night and a few nights ago he dug in his litter box for the first time. I tried to wear him out during the day with a paper bag filled with hay for him to shred, but it didn’t really help. He doesn’t like playing with toys, he just plays by shredding and eating everything. His cage (an X-large dog crate) is also super boring for him since he likes plain, open space. No toys, hidey houses, beds, nothing. Just his litter box and water bowl. That’s what he likes. He’s only locked inside for 8-9 hours each night, then he free roams my room all day. I really want to get him a brother or sister, but my parents won’t let me. He has been extra destructive outside of his cage as well. He bit multipe holes in my bean bag chair, which before he would never chew up and enjoyed sitting on with me.
I’m pretty sure he’s neutered, but I’m not too sure. A girl I found on Facebook rescued him at an auction and she didn’t specify if he was or not, so his background’s a mystery. I tried checking a couple times and didn’t see anything, so I’m fairly certain he is.
He has also re-developed old habits. When I first got him, he would not stop trying to go under my dresser, bed, and bookshelf. I eventually got the habbit out if him, but since he got this crazy mood swing, he’s back to forcing his way under everything. I’ve tried all kinds of proofing! Nothing works! I even wrapped a blaket around my wooden bedframe he kept chewing and he shred right through it in minutes! He is so determined to get under stuff that proofing makes him more determined!
Is this a phase he’s going through? Will it last long? I haven’t had a solid sleep or a day go by where I don’t want to pull my hair out in over a week.
