Every single time I give Fiona a cookie, she stands up and “begs” I like to call it. She gets very excited. The second that she takes the cookie, she will frantically look for somewhere to eat it. She runs from spot to spot. It seems like she thinks I am going to take it from her. I have never taken a cookie away from her. Why does she do this?

I think it depends. I have two buns who run after getting treats. My Bombur runs away with his treats because he doesnt want to share. My Badger runs around in circles when hes happy, so if you give him a treat he will start to run around because hes happy you gave him a goody

My bunnies do this too, I think it’s just natural bunny behaviour

(I’m sure when you say cookie you don’t mean a human cookie, but just checking!)

Panda always does this on getting a “cookie” (Oxbow Simple Rewards); or more accurately, she hops off a couple of feet or so in order to not be importuned with pets (I like to offer both of them forehead rubs when giving them treats); it varies with Fernando – most of the time he sticks close to me and accepts forehead pets, occasionally he scampers off. When they get herb treats, though, they stick close by me (and usually end up wrestling over the herb in question, they love to try to steal a morsel out of one another’s mouth!)

My bunnies nom instantly, they don’t waste time running away Unless one bun is trying to steal from the other.

Oh no! Even though she shows a lot of interest in my human cookies, she only gets bunny cookies. I like to give her small pet select’s healthy snackers (pumpkin flavored this month, because it’s fall!!). She also likes the oxbow ones!
Whenever she gets lettuce or herbs she will eat it on the spot. She is the only pet in the household so I thought it was funny that she only ran away when given cookies. Oh well, just another funny bunny quirk I guess!

My trixie does this when she gets a grape. I very rarely give them but when I do she runs around with it in her mouth. It’s like she’s doing victory laps. It’s quite funny to see

She’s obviously celebrating her triumph at finagling a grape out of you.

Another way to look at it is that they’re protecting their precious cookies from cookie thieves, especially if there’s another cookie-loving bun in the vicinity. (See what I said earlier about my buns literally stealing treat greens out of one another’s mouths.)

I think it’s about protecting extra yummy stuff from other potential yummy-stuff-lovers

Chewie does this as well. But to be fair, I run away when someone gives me a taco.

If it was a Taco Bell “taco” they gave you, I can see why.

Apropos of this, I note that the extremely popular apple/banana variety of Oxbow Simple Rewards appears to be out of stock – again – in the Petsmart stores near me. Fortunately, Panda and Fernando seem to like all the different flavors, and I have to get a hay resupply from Friends of Rabbits next weekend (I’m taking the buns in for their first semiannual checkup since they came to live with me that day too, but that’s a different subject), so since they sell Simple Rewards too I’ll ask if they happen to have any apple/banana to hand.

Fernando has picked up the abscond-with-cookie habit. I gave them their breakfast treats a few minutes ago, and off both of them went to the opposite end of the pen, where they assumed identical positions and began nomming. Got pictures as proof. Panda is lounging next to me with her hind legs out; she’s always in a good mood after her morning pellets and cookie.
