Hi! Take what I’m saying with a grain of salt because I’m a new bunny owner and every bunny is different but… my bun is relatively free-range and when I first got him, he went straight for the carpet. I had no other choice BUT to have him have access to my carpet so I decided to train him for it. If you have the time to train…
What I did was I took the time to really be on his butt like you would a puppy. I actually did the “trade” training like I did with my dog. If he started to pull at the carpet, I traded it for a wooden block or his favourite sea-grass chew toy. Every single time he did it, I traded him. If he was being particularly bad and it was too late for me to go across the room, I slap a hard surface as if to mimic a bunny-stamp. He gets upset with me but he stops. Also a squirt bottle is good to have in a pinch.
Now I have him to a point where he’ll feel the urge to pull up the carpet, realise this and then lick it instead. It took a lot of time but my carpet is in great shape, with one or two fibres pulled from time to time by mistake.
Edit: Editing just in case this matters, but I actually took AWAY the blankets from him for a while until he achieved better habits. Once that happened, I gave them back and he’s more respectful of how he plays with his blankets
