  Some of you know that I’m giving up on trying to bond my two. Despite a very positive start, they have continued to decline in behavior. I can’t keep them both as singles long term, it’s just too inconvenient for my schedule and I really don’t have the extra space to spare. Sadly, Quincy is going to be rehomed
  
  A girl inquired about him as a bond mate for her male lionhead. Now, he was very insistent on being dominant and I think that is why he and Ophelia aren’t working, since females are usually the dominant one in rabbit pairs. I did tell her this, and asked her if her bun has ever interacted with another rabbit. She said that he has not, but she thinks he is submissive. I told her that I thought the same thing about Quincy, but turned out to be wrong when he was with another bun. So she said she wanted to try anyway. Her bunny is neutered (post op 3 weeks). She said she has a setup for separating them and prebonding, and I gave her some suggestions for his chewing habit.
  
  Thoughts? Maybe he would get along with a submissive male rather than a dominant female? But she doesn’t know how Greg (her bunny) will act with another bunny. Since we can never be sure two will bond, the girl agreed to give him back to me if it doesn’t work. I don’t want him to end up living in a rescue or shelter. Should we even try this or is it a bad idea?

  You might be able to ask her to keep in touch? Maybe if it doesn’t work out for her she could return him to you and by that time you might be able to try again with better results? So sorry you have to get rid of one of your babies!

  Turns out the rescue found a woman who wants him. She recently lost her bun that she rescued from them 9 years ago. He will be living the single life, but that may be better for him considering his personality and reaction toward other buns. And at least I know he’s going to a very experienced owner!

  I was going to post on your ‘giving up’ thread but I’ll do it here instead. I’m very sorry to hear that your bunnies couldn’t bond but the main thing is you have done everything you can and you are doing all you can to ensure Quincy goes to a good home. I think you are 100% better going with a shelter even if it takes a little longer. It will just give you peace of mind that he is going to someone who knows about rabbits and if it didn’t work out the shelter would have him back. I had to rehome one of my boys back in June and it was heartbreaking but I knew it was the best decision for both the rabbits sake and for mine. The shelter were brilliant and he got snapped up within hours. I don’t think I could have lived with myself if I’d have just advertised him myself. I’m too much of a worrier and it would have played on my mind too much. 5 months down the line and Daryl is now happily in love with trixie and I’ve had an update from my rehomed boy rick and he now has a wonderful home and a lovely bun wife. Quincy is a lovely looking bun and I’m sure he will get his happy ending sooner than you think. It’s a tough decision to make and I wish you all the best.

  Quincy is being picked up tomorrow to go home with a woman who is grieving the recent loss of her rescue, who she had for 9 years. I’m at least very glad to know that he will be going to a very experienced owner. She is keeping him as a single, which I think may actually be good for him. He is very sweet with humans but he was very demanding with Ophelia. It could be that their personalities didn’t match, but I think I got a pretty good read on him from the last 3 months and he is very happy with human attention.

  I hope you’re feeling ok about the rehoming. Of course it’s sad for you, but it’s the best for both the buns, and I hope knowing he’s going to such a good home is reassuring!

  You gave it your best effort and are doing the right thing for both Quincy and Ophelia, and yourself too! Glad to hear that he will be bringing bun-love back into someone’s life and that his hoomin is also an experienced owner. I hope she will send you updates on how he is doing .

  Hope you are feeling okay! Many buns live better with just a hooman companion instead of another bun
