How can you tell if the balls are dropped? Buster is around 3.5 – 4 months, and just yesterday he started to circle around me. He’s a fuzzy lop mix, and he has very fluffy butt. Should I be able to just feel the balls? Because I tried feeling them and of course Buster didn’t appreciate that.
I will be traveling in a few weeks, so I’d probably just wait until I’m back (he stays with grandma while I’m traveling) to get him neutered.
But how can you tell? The vet said to wait for his balls to drop before he can be neutered, but how can you tell?
That could be rather tricky with a really fluffy rabbit! If he is oaky being handled, just holding him and taking a look should give an idea. You should see pink sacks each side (and slightly above) the genital mound. But you’d need to check regularly as they can pull the testicles up and it’s harder to see. If you can hold him with his back against your chest and supporting his bottom, someone else might be able to take a look. If you can distract him with a favourite treat, that may help – but a lot of rabbits won’t take a treat while being held.
Another way is getting him to stand on his hindlegs while reaching for a treat so you can get a look. It helps it they’re in a pen or cage and leaning their front paws on that as they’ll stay standing that way longer. But I think you’d need a fan blowing on his fur to get a clear view.
Sometimes, they’re even visible when a rabbit is relaxed and lying down with their back legs out to the side. But I doubt that would be the case for your fluffy little guy.
@Jack&Lola, this thread title is still amusing me.
I feel like I should be singing out “Happy New Year!” or something. lol
Any update on your 2?
