  My rabbits go back and forth between school and my home. The only reason they go to school is for my Agriculture class. One of my rabbits recently scratched me while I was at school. It was not a large scratch, but I did need a bandage. My nurse freaked out when she knew what happened and told me that my rabbits need their shots immediately and that I should quarantine the one that scratched me. Do they really need shots? I was under the influence that they didn’t.

  It depends what country you’re in. In the UK, rabbits get vaccinated against myxamatosis and two types of VHD. In some other countries, vaccinations aren’t availble. If you phone your local vet they’ll be able to tell you what’s available in your country.
  
  It sounds like your nurse is worried that you’ll catch something from your rabbit scratch. That is not possible. Rabbits are vaccinated for their own safety, not for yours.
  
  So in short – depending where you live your rabbits might need shots, but you won’t have caught anything from your pet rabbit scratch.

  If you are in the USA or Canada, there are no shots for rabbits. In Europe an Australia there are shots that prevent rabbits from getting a couple of diseases that only affects rabbits (and hares).
  
  As a rule, rabbit bites and scratches are harmless. Rabbits don’t have the needle-shaped teeth that makes cat bites so dangerous.
  
  Maybe the nurse feared rabies? It’s very uncommon in rabbits and if your bun is an indoors bun it’s even more unlikely that rabies is a concern. For a bun to get rabies it must get an infected animal’s saliva in a wound or on a mucous membrane.
  
  You could perhaps ask the nurse what she meant. If there’s any real suspicion of rabies you should get a rabies shot yourself. As far as I know there are no rabies-shots for buns, I don’t know if they can have the same vaccine as dogs.

  I am currently in the USA and I will inform her that there is no vaccines as far as I know. I’m not sure if she was scared, but it is possible. She told me when I explained that it was near impossible for my rabbits to have anything that I wouldn’t know because I did after all adopt them and there is no telling what they had at their original home. I will need to call a vet once one opens (around 11 if I can)
