Hello, everyone! I am wondering if anyone has made their own bunny treats? I’ve seen some recipes on Pinterest but would trust them more if I knew they came from real bunny owners. Does anyone have any recipes that they know work? Any safe add in ideas like herbs or flowers? Can I use things like chamomile from a chamomile tea bag if I make sure that there are no unsafe bunny herbs in the tea bag?

I made these a few weeks ago!

The only thing I changed was the omit the honey and just added a bit more banana. They are a HUGE hit, Thor might even like them more than fresh bananas Stored them in a cookie jar and they have lasted well for the last 3 weeks so long term storage isn’t too much of a problem.

Camomile is also safe for rabbits, you could add some to a treat recipe you try!

i made bun treats once with my mom, but i’d have to ask her what the recipe exactly was because it’s been a while. she got it from a family member of mine who owns three buns herself. she didn’t come up with the recipe, but she did share it, and that’s how my mother found out about it. like the treats Thor sent, the recipe did originally include honey, but we took that part out. the other ingredients were oats, treats, hay (the little bits from the bottom of the bag), and organic baby food. we really need to make those again since Sienna loved them.

Thanks for sharing! I had the same question, actually, and have been wanting to make some healthy bunny treats.

I make mine very similar to the ones on the recipe pictured above, but I use Critical Care instead of pellets as the “flour”, omit the oats and honey, and add finely diced apple. I’m glad to hear that the other ones lasted 3 weeks- I’m somewhat paranoid after all the tummy issues my rabbits have had lately, so was worrying if they would last beyond 2 days, never mind weeks!

Pellets would definitely be a more economical option to Critical Care for these cookies. I use CC because I have it on hand after GI Stasis problems, and am trying to get as much nutrition as possible into him. I also have only one little rabbit left to feed!
