Hello, my name is Rose and I’m new here. I hope that I’m posting in the right place.
Anyways, I have a senior rabbit named Ginger who turned 9 years old in August.
Since two years ago, she’s had an ongoing molar problem that required us to get it trimmed every month. It eventually got better until just recently and we’re back at the vet for almost monthly visits.
Not too long ago, she had a really hard stomach and we took her to the ER vet. The vet said her cecum was really backed up and sent us home with some fluids in hopes to help her push everything out. She was eating okay, poops were small and black but not moist. We took her to our regular vet that following Monday for a molar trim. The doctor told us that she was definitely not stable enough for a molar trim and that we should focus on getting her cecum moving. So she sent us home with more fluids and 6 different medications (pain killers, antibiotics, and stuff to help her stomach move all the food out).
Since then her stomach has vastly improved but her arthritis has gotten worse.
Before the whole stomach issue, Ginger was limping. I called the vet and the vet told us to up the dosage for the meloxicam she was already on. We did and saw improvement. When her g.i. stasis hit, it got worse and worse. The vet did mention cold laser therapy on the phone but has since seen her (Monday oct. 2nd)
First it was just her back right leg, now it seems like one of her front legs is giving out.
I don’t know what to do. She’s constantly soaked in her own urine which requires constant butt baths and blow drying because she can’t clean herself without falling over. She’ll stay hutched in one area because whenever she tries to move or use the litter she falls over and can’t get up.
We’re already drowning in vet bills and with a 5 month old in the house it really isn’t easy.
She’s eating a lot better and gets excited about getting her medicine. She’ll snatch the syringe from me! I love her so much and I want to do everything for her but am I making her suffer? Constant butt baths and so many different medications? Should I try the laser therapy? What about getting a wheel chair for her? Diapers?
I might just go ahead and visit the vet again today and try to get these questions answered but I would love some feedback.
