Hi all. First time poster here. I have had bunnies in the past, but never one with health issues like my little mini lop, Apollo. I got him almost a month ago, and when I picked him up the first thing I noticed was the third eye lid was protruding in his left eye, and I asked the lady about it, and was told that can happen when they’re stressed, and I get that, but it just seemed extra big to me (he had just taken his first car ride to our meeting point though, so I figured she was probably right) he was really stressed for several hours after I brought him home, so I put him in my room where he could have some quiet time and he finally decided to eat, so I figured he was going to be ok. Within about 3 days he was well adjusted and seemed to be enjoying his new environment, binkying and zooming all over, but I noticed that he was sneezing quite a bit (no discharge) and that he seemed to get very worn out, very quickly. So, I took him to the vet, based on the sneezing, she said he has an upper respiratory infection, and as soon as she pulled his eye lid up she determined that he also had an eye infection. So, she prescribed him antibiotics for 2 weeks. He was so stressed about our visit to the vet that when we got home, he didn’t eat, drink, or poop for 12 hours, he just cowered in the corner of his cage until we brought him in our bed, then laid between my husband’s legs. We ended up force feeding him mushed up pellets and water, and after 48 hours of force feeding, he finally ate hay on his own and started to get back to normal. Fast forward almost 2 weeks, he was doing pretty well, although still sneezing, but just about done with his meds and I noticed that left eye looked a little watery and can see his 3rd eye lid sometimes in both eyes even when he’s not stressed. Called the vet and she prescribed 10 days of eye drops. Well, tomorrow is day 10 and I can still see the third eye lid for example when he reaches his head down to eat pellets, it pops out for a second when he picks up his head. Also, as far as the sneezing, I noticed it seems to happen a lot when he’s eating pellets so I took them away last night and gave him extra lettuce (he also gets hay all day) I didn’t give him pellets all day, and there was No sneezing, but his poops were way smaller, and he kept going up on his shelf begging for pellets. I have him some tonight and he sneezed almost instantly, but only once. I’m not sure what to do now. I’m terrified to take him back to the vet after what happened last time (I truly thought we were going to lose him) I should also mention that he has more energy than he did in the beginning most days. I just don’t know if I’m overreacting to his eyes, and I guess I’m continuing giving pellets for now because I’d rather have him sneezing than trying to survive stasis. Any thoughts on any of this are appreciated!
