Hi there, my daughter has a Holland Lop with one white toenail. We were planning on showing him at our local fair. The nail had been broken and must have grown back white. Just grown out enough to see it has no pigment. If the rabbit is disqualified, can it still be used for showmanship?

          Hi alexmom

I don’t recall any of our current active members here having showed their rabbits. There are a couple other forums I know of that have sections dedicated to the topic, if you haven’t asked on those before.

I would perhaps contact the organisation overseeing this at the fair also, in case rules differ regionally.

          Hope that helps!

I think it depends on your local 4H too. Different groups have different rules. The focus seems to be shifting (in some areas) away from having “excellent specimens” and more toward “learning the responsibilities of caring for a pet”. So you may want to ask your local 4H what is all involved in showing.

I would also recommend asking what the requirements are for participating. I would be wary if they require the rabbits be kept in a barn with no air conditioning for several days.

I second LBJ, I definitely wouldn’t allow my bun to participate if he was going to be kept anywhere without air conditioning. It breaks my heart when I go to the fair and see the bunnies breathing heavily from the heat.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, that was my first question to the fair official. Rabbits do not stay overnight. I wouldn’t let our rabbit stay anywhere overnight without us for any reason. He is A/C kept in our home. Thank you!
