Sterling, (most of) Olaf, and Apollo! ![]()
Yes, you read that right, it’s October. Pawty time ![]()
Apollo, Sterling, Bindi, Buttercup, Ailis, Chewie, Olaf.
(Newcomers, fear not, this is just a wee BB “tradition” – on the first day of a new month, we say the names of (at least) 3 white and partly white buns. Do join in, if you like!)
Today is Effi’s 9th birthday.
Happy Birthday Effie!!
I was right, it is pawty time!
Fernando, Chewie, Olaf!
Ailis, Ailis, Ailis ! Is that cheating? There is extra Ailis this month cos she’s moulting. ![]()
Did somebody say…..PAWTY?!!
HAPPUPPY BIRTHDAY EFFI !!! ![]()
Chewie. BindiLoo. Henry’s tum.
Jersey. Rofl. No its not cheating. Zou is in meeega moult, outdoing the other four furries put together….!!
2 anniversaries this weekend :
– Today is one year since my sweet Tisha crossed over the rainbow bridge . (Already !??!)
– And one year ago exactly since Prince Henry the Hoover arrived and caused chaos for the following 3 months !!! (Only ?!?!).
The evening after Tisha died and the day before HRH Henry arrived, I had only Zou left in the house keeping me company.
Oh how things can change in one single year ❤️
Apollo, buttercup, and Fernando
Happy October! It’s almost Halloween, and that is one of my favourite holidays because I love making costumes.
Lol jersey, that video made me laugh in real life! I hope it is also a gif, I would use it all the time.
Clover’s belly, Clover’s belly, Clover’s belly….(I don’t know any white rabbits….)
Peep Maggie and Yumi’s tum!!
FINALLY finished my masters, handed in my thesis on Friday, and have been reunited with my buns, and wont have to leave them in the care of my poor mother again for a while (hopefully)
Happy is an understatement !
Whew, I definitely recognise the relief Dface! Very happy to hear that it’s all finished now
How’s your mother holding up with the furmonsters? I heard that they were making quite a mess there. Hope she isn’t in the *eye twitch* state whenever someone mentions the word “rabbit”.
Yay, Dface!!!
Thanks Ellie and Bam!
My mom is delighted she doesnt have to be responsible anymore, but fortunately she absolutely adores them (She calls them her grandkids) but her battle with Peeps fur broke her hoover…, and had to buy a new one…whoops!!
Im excited to test it out though- the on/off switch is on the handle and it has a digital display…technology is wonderful!
Leopold’s tummy, Wooly’s blaze, Bindi, Sterling, Peep, Apollo, Peep, Olaf, Fernando, Buttercup…
EEEEEEEEEEP!!!! So happy to see October
I started my Halloween decorating yesterday…..it is October so that’s not too early, right? bahahah I am so impatient.
In other news, I’ve been switching the buns out in the morning and leaving them in each others area for several hours before starting our bonding sessions. This seems to really make things go much smoother! I was pooped from decorating yesterday so I went to bed super early last night and woke up early this am so I switched the buns and gave pellets and got back in bed. Then Ophelia came up on the bed and did some binky madness then cuddled with us! What a wonderful start to the day

I’m fixing to go down to North Carolina this weekend. Looking through my local rabbit rescue for a bunny-sitter, since I don’t want to put them through the stress of driving 400 miles for 8 hours there and back again. It’ll be the first time since they came home that I’ve been apart from them for more than twelve hours or so at a time.
Bunnoob, It is never too early for Halloween!
I started planning my costume in July, even though it is a very easy one this year. I was just too excited to get started lol. I make one every year, and if it needs sewing by hand it takes a while so I start early. Last year I made a Dalek out of cardboard and right after I spray-painted the whole thing bronze and was putting on the finishing touches, the basement flooded and the cardboard soaked up a lot of soggy gross water
. Is anyone else dressing up for Halloween? (You are never too old!)
Where’s Q8? I hope she’s rid of her pneumonia =(
Halloween is strictly for kids here. But it’s nice we have this new-ish tradition now, because we need a holiday in the darkness.
Dface, Peep’s fur broke your mum’s hoover?? Bam has yet to accomplish that. He is working on it, though.
I found these pretty big lint rollers at Walmart and I’ve been spot rolling my apartment before I vacuum. I do have a tiny apartment though, so probably not something that one wants to do in a larger house! But I just roll over the spots they normally lay and its also useful for grabbing scattered bits of hay, rather than picking up individual pieces!
Guys…. I am so sad about my local rabbit rescue. They have a barn and they have a ton of bunnies. They take such good care of the buns and a lot of the medical bills are paid out of pocket by the owners or fosterers. I was just looking on their facebook page and saw a story of a bun who was born in the rescue and took 3 years to find her forever home! I wish I could take in some bunnies, just absolutely impossible in my apartment. My sister sells crafts and stuff on etsy, and I’m thinking of making a decent amount of stuff and donating the profit to the rabbit rescue. I wish I could just be a crazy rabbit lady and have a barn of bunnies………….
Bam-yup peep has an alarming amount of fur. It jammed the hoover filters and somehow banjaxed it! Hopefully the new hoover manages a bit better!
BN – we have too much of the house for that to be used. Plus his fur is shedding amazingly…
I know the feeling about wanting to save them all. It’s harrowing. The rescue I got peep from are appealing for a bonded pair to have their own forever home, but as they are special needs the sanctuary has even agreed to pay for the medication for the rest of their lives …it’s heartbreaking!!
HOT TIP OF THE DAY
If you have a FURBUSTER type comb, use it on carpets (short pile) to effortlessly clear up fur which vacuums take two or three passages to suck up !!!!! Just clear the fur off the comb after each scrap and it is…. SIMPLES !!!
I use an old fashion carpet sweeper every morning, its surprisingly effective, and has the big advantage of being pretty immune to bunstruction!
hey whatever works is gooood for me ! ![]()
Who else is wondering where Q8 is! Hope all is well, I know she was recently sick. Hoping Chew is nursing her back to health!
![]()
I talked to her today, she is indeed not feeling well. But Chewie is being his amazing little self
Not sure how long it’ll take, but we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
Thank you for informing us, Ellie! I’m happy to hear Chewie is alright, but I want Q8 to be alright too. Get well Q8 ???
You’re welcome
It may have gotten lost in translation a bit, but I meant to say that Chewie is really taking care of her.
Q8 – if you can hear us : GET WELL SOON !!!!!!! ?❤️?❤️?❤️?
I’d like a big thumbs up please for Baloo who is making baby steps to settling down on walks. He is being very reactive towards other dogs anywhere and its tiring not being able to shout at him to be quiet ! (LOL)
I am binge-watching Positive Trainer Zak George on youtube and – in the face of frustrating and almost hysterical barking – remaining exceedingly positive and rewarding calmness and silence with a pocket full of turkey to help the progress.
And today, i saw a breakthrough with him glancing back quite often to check i was there and when i called and he sat on command he got a scrummy reward.
Although he has good recall, he will remain on lead for a good while yet as he seems to have tendancies to want to prove he is top dog….
(There goes my plans of having a calm dog to be able to take to retirement homes etc to pet…. hey ho!)
Yay, I hope that Baloo will get the hint soon and he’ll be a lot calmer during walks. I’m not very experienced with dogs but Bas is. He’s used to handling a Rottweiler heavier than himself. He told me that your tone of voice and your energy is really important. He says that dog won’t listen to somebody who is shouting and upset, because a leader should remain calm. At least, that’s the way he explained the odd situation which happened to me a couple of weeks ago:
I went to one of the neighbours to have a chat about her teenage grandson. She’s a bit of an oddball but I used to make time for a chat with her every day. Her grandson was bored and had been making a racket with a sports whistle all day. Several neighbours were complaining, but none wanted to talk to her. I was very calm and tried to have a friendly conversation with her, but she completely flipped, started to make the craziest arguments and shouted at me. Her dog hid behind me and wanted me to pet him. When she tried to get him back into the house he didn’t listen. She tried to grab him and he growled at her. Wow, that was confusing… Bas told me that the dog must have seen me as the calm and assertive leader in that situation. Really strange though, because I’m very unexperienced with dog behaviour.
Ellie, so glad Chewie is there for her =)
Poor crazy lady’s dog. Bas is probably right. Crazy lady was acting crazy – dog turned to you because he understood you are sane and reliable. Dogs do like calm and assertive, as Cesar Milan puts it. (But then very few mammals appreciate hysteric outbursts of yelling.)
Vienna, how cool he looks back to make eye contact with you. Sounds like progress!
Aw no, Q8. : (
Lots of Binky Bunny {{{{{vibes}}}}} coming your way!
Dog talk! I shall come back to this. Very interested. My sisters 1 yr old border collie has a few habits that need correcting. Going to check out zak George, thanks Vienna! Great to hear about the progress Baloo is making!! ![]()
Yes, check him out Jersey. It’s like taking a safe happy pill !!!!
I just wish I’d known about all this positive stuff with Kyra…. never mind now.
So, we’ve just finished a 2-week intake procedure at the rehabilitation centre, and the conclusion is: run and get a second opinion. Everything about this is wrong in some way… Sorry if this sounds ranty, but I may have been waiting in pain for several months, only to be back at square 1
First of all, my back issue hasn’t been properly researched. In March my GP and physio referred me to the hernia-clinic in the local hospital. This is because I have wicked back pain which radiates into my right leg which lasts for at least 9 months now. The pain is so bad that I can’t walk more than 30 m properly. I was quickly examined by a nurse and an MRI was done, but nothing was found to indicate a hernia. But there the diagnostics ended: I never got the chance to talk to the neurologist and about follow-up diagnostics. I just got a letter that they referred me to the “back programme” of the local rehabilitation centre. Sounds good I thought, I’ve been treated successfully by their pain clinic some years ago, and they have an excellent reputation.
When I started the intake process at the centre I found out that they referred me to a pain team instead of the “back programme”. It wasn’t until the end of september that I found out that such a “back programme” doesn’t exist at all. Why on earth did the neurologist send me to something which never existed? Also: the pain teams don’t do diagnostics, they only treat symptoms according to the mantra “learn to live with it”. After only 1 MRI and a small exam by a nurse you can’t tell people to “just live with” pain which is the equivalent of hernia pain.
It also turned out that the pain team isn’t a part of the original centre, but rather a company which operates under the name of the rehabilitaton centre. That was odd, appearantly they were hired to cut down on waiting times. They’re also in a different building….a building which turned out to be inaccessible to people in a wheelchair! People in a wheelchair have to get out of it and go down the stairs on their rear end if they want to get to the treatment rooms…WHAT???
As a part of the intake process each member of their team examinated me. I was seen by their doctor, physio, psychologist and case manager. Together they had a meeting to discuss my case and they proposed their ideas for treatment options today. Their doctor was a complete brute during the exam: he didn’t let me finish my sentences, didn’t involve me in the conversation and monologued more than half of the time about irrelevant things to show off his knowledge. As if I should have felt honoured to be allowed in there, because he didn’t really seem to need my input to draw a conclusion.
Today was the final appointment with the case manager, and she asked me about my experiences with the team. It was a missed opportunity that the doctor himself wasn’t there, because I could have told him to his face: “I’ve been in and out of hospitals for the last 10 years now, but I’ve never seen such a flagrant display of poor bedside manner. Patient interaction is a major competence for a doctor, especially with complicated cases such as rehabilitation. You are incompetent in this part of your job, and this damages your credibility.”. I told this to the case manager instead, and she was a bit shocked but took it very seriously. She said that it shouldn’t be the case that patients aren’t heard properly and treated so poorly. I told her: “If he objects so much to patients having their say in the matter, he’d better switch to working in a morgue.”. She understood that I won’t be working with this doctor again if I ever decide to get treatment there.
We’ll go for a second opinion and if there really is no other option I’ll look into some specialised physio treatment at their centre. They can keep the rest of their programme, I have zero faith in it. I’m shocked that the rehabilitation centre is putting their good reputation on the line by working with this lot.
I’ll go back to my trusted physio who’s been treating me for years, and ask her if she knows any specialists or clinics for lower back problems. The only good thing that came out of these exams was that all experts point to the same spot in my lower back. They’re certain that the nerve irritation is caused by that specific joint, but they have no idea what caused the problems in the first place. The experts disagree on the nature of the problems: one says possible nerve damage, the other says nerve irritation because of muscle tension. Oh well, at least we’ll know where to look.
Oh Ellie that sucks ? at least she took your complaints seriously, so hopefully there’ll be a positive change!
Jersey: The synchronized alert bunnies is priceless and made my day.
Dface: A huge congrats! You must feel so relieved (and proud, of course).
Ellie: That IS insane. I couldn’t possibly tell you anything you haven’t already thought or heard, but I applaud your strength and perseverence – and can only hope that you get to your end goal (relief from the gutting pain) via an alternate path. *hug*
PS Sorry to worry people. I was exhausted down to the marrow and BB still doesn’t always load, so I mostly just slept. With the little wookie standing guard, of course.
Good to see you Q8 ![]()
Happy to see you, Q8! Kiss the wookie from us all and thank him for nursing you back to health.
Ellie, that sounds really disappointing =( Effi (dog) gets cold laser on her lower back, couldn’t that be an option for you? For pain management and inflammation control? It seems to work very well for Effi, she’s been off her pain med (NSAID) for a week now.
Thank you Q8! It’s insane that you nearly have to fight your doctors to get proper treatment because all of the budget cuts. But I’ve got no other option than to fight for a proper diagnosis. “Learning to live with it” and remaining nearly wheelchair-bound is not an attractive prospect.
*Big hug back*
@bam, Thanks, I’ll look into it! I’ll need to evaluate all my options now, because you only get 1 second opinion. I’m going to gather advice from my GP and physio, and look for specialised clinic or something of the like. It’s surprising how many people in my family are advising me all kinds of alternative therapies like osteopathy and chiropraxy, but I told them: if all their claims can’t be proven scientifically I won’t try it. Anyway, the regular medical options haven’t been exhausted yet, so let’s see where we can get ![]()
Ellie – sorry about your ongoing troubles.
You’ll get the 2 sides of the osteo debate – I’m in the pro team. My hip or back or something slips out every now and again (I’m crooked and in pain) and osteo puts it back in, I straighten up and pain goes.
I’m not sure if that’s the scientific proof you’re after…. but it works for me.
You’ll need a really good one who takes into account your past and current med history, but it’s amazing what they can do (correcting protuding jawbone etc on a new born…)
We put our cars in for annual revisions to be tweaked and readjusted etc to work to its very best and remain safe.
Why shouldn’t our bodies (and minds) have the same TLC… lol ![]()
Sorry, I didn’t mean to start a pro/con debate. I just wanted to mention that people have been giving me this kind of advice already, and that I don’t believe in these alternative therapies whose basic principles aren’t scientifically sound.
They also won’t help to get an official diagnosis and to prove the new situation to the government, because statements made by alternative practitioners aren’t accepted as proof by the government regarding disability. It has to come from an official physician.
Ellie I’m sorry to hear of your troubles and I do hope you can find a clinic that can give you the help that you need.
I bought some more plants for the rabbit garden yesterday. Mostly I was hoping to get calendulas and pansies but the nursery didn’t have any, I was told they are going out of season which seems odd, at least for calendula because I was sure I last bought one around this time of year. I have to drop hubby off a little later so I might stop in at another garden center to have a look around. Yesterday I got yarrow, chamomile, watercress, strawberries and a native violet (which I’ll have to do more research on for safety but all other violets so far seem to be safe). I also bought a tomato to replace last years plant which is still in the ground looking extremely sorry for itself.
The lady from Friends of Rabbits (my local rabbit rescue from whom I adopted my buns) came by to pick up Panda and Fernando for bunny-sitting a few minutes ago. Fernando, being the easy-going, laid-back fellow that he is, didn’t put up much of a fuss about being put into the carrier, but it took two treats and a fair bit of cajoling, coaxing and finally a firm grasp on a wriggly rabbit to get Panda properly stowed away. I’m missing them already but I feel a LOT better knowing they’ll be in the best hands I can think of while I’m on vacation. I’m getting on the road fairly early tomorrow since it’s a longish drive (400-something miles) to the part of the North Carolina coast (between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach in Brunswick County, @tobyluv may know the area) from Northern Virginia. I’ll have to make sure to write down my BB login/password before I go so I can keep up from a distance!
Posting again because I wanted to add a funny story
When I brush the rabbits, sometimes I take Apollo out first, sometimes Luna. Whenever I take Apollo out first, when I come back in the door with him to put him back in the cage Luna will start thumping at me, because she knows she’s next and she doesn’t want to be picked up, lol. It’s terribly cute the way she protests. ![]()
Rabbits are very opinionated individuals.
Q8!!!!!!!
She’s aliiiiiiiiive. Halleeeelujahhhhhh.
![]()
Q8 ?
I thought I replied earlier ?
Az, that’s an interesting observation. Buns are clever.
Ellie, I hope you can figure sth out.
Q8 – good to see you back in the world of the living
Azerane – I noticed the same thing when I had two bunnies! I would always catch one first to groom them, then do the other. They caught on pretty quickly to what was up, clever buns.
Gosh we had a scare tonight, I was so excited about fall apples coming into season and bought a whole bunch at the market. My hubby and I were chowing down on fresh apples, giving Thor a few nibbles here and there which she loved. Then we noticed she had stolen 2 apple cores and run off with them! Ak! Managed to get them back, all seeds are accounted for. Way to give me a heart attack, bunny.
I’ve noticed since my two were bonded that they try to rescue each other from mean mummy and her grooming brush/nail clippers. It’s very cute but also realllllyy annoying ? I’ve had to start separating them.
Lol, Tony’s Mum that’s too funny. I try to groom Apollo first because he has a tendency to bunker down in a hard to reach spot otherwise but sometimes Luna is just right there so I do her first.
Today hubby and I went to a cat show. I’ve been to a couple and met the breeder but this is the first time he’s made it. We had a really good chat with her and got to cuddle some gorgeous cats (including one of her 12-ish week old kittens! She was so cute! ). We now need to decide what to do next, she’s expecting a litter in about 2 months time but they’re all expected to be shorthairs and i really had my heart set on a longhair. If we went with a shorthair we’d still be looking at a 5 month wait from today, and a longhair at least another 7 months at a guess. Unless by some freak accident the female shorthair that is expecting carries longhair from way back in her genes (she’s not supposed to), or the lady who has a current longhair kitten on hold backs out we could have a longhair (but both are long shots). The other option is I abandon my colour choice and get a blue kitten because she has some unexpected blues available (breeding for almost 20 years and never had a single blue til now, which is why there’s not a kitten for us yet because the litter that was supposed to be all Tawnys only had two Tawnys and two surprise blues). I’m at a bit of a loss, I just want a kitten and i can say I’m happy to wait for what i want but it’s so hard
Of the cats we met today, one was a beautiful longhair boy who I’ve met before and my heart just melts. But today we also met a shorthair boy and he was so gorgeous too, very sleek and muscular and an absolute sweetheart (and a bit of a clown too I think <img src="https://binkybunny.com/wp-content/uploads/converted_files/themes/BB_Theme//emoticons/biggrin.gif" align="middle" >. I know i will love whatever kitten we bring home in the end, but it’s so tough to know what to do. Sorry for the long rant, it was a very exciting day and made me realise just how much i miss having a cat. We will hopefully be visiting her home later this month to meet all of her cats which will hopefully help us decide what to do. She did offer to recommend us to an interstate breeder which was really nice but I like being able to meet the cats and breeder our kitten will be coming from. Again sorry for the rant, I’m going now
ETA: Posting this on my phone and editing seems to have messed it up somehow.
Azerane: I know it’s hard to wait! We failed with both our cats, Lily was supposed to be a seal point, and Mosby a brown tabby. When those colors weren’t available in the litters we waited for, we just went with it. Needless to say, we couldn’t be happier with them. On the other hand, purebred kittens are expensive, so you would of course want the perfect one. I think you’ll be happy either way, once you have the kitten you won’t be able to imagine yourself with any other, no matter what color it ends up being. So it’s really just a question of do you want to wait or not… It’s great that you will be able to visit the breeder, I think seeing all the kitties might just help you make that decision. Personally, I think you should get a kitten as soon as possible, but that’s just me…
![]()
And yes, Otis getting his teeth stuck was so scary, I was still jittery 30 minutes later. I’m so glad we were home, I can’t imagine what might have happened if we had been at work at the time.
Q8: I’m glad you’re feeling better and Chewie is taking care of you! ![]()
Ellie: I’m sorry they weren’t of any help, how disappointing. Hopefully you can get a recommendation for a better place.
I woke up this morning with him on my chest. He had his paws on my collarbone and kept nose booping my chin.
Sometimes I REALLY wish he could speak.
Thanks for the support everyone, and sorry about the massive rant. It was just such a large let-down after all those months waiting in pain
I also had high hopes of the rehabilitation centre, because I’ve been there before and they practically worked miracles on me then. When I was admitted there I couldn’t hold a tea cup without fierce pain and I slept most of the day. When I left I was back to working in a lab 16 hours a week. Never expected that budget cuts had hit them so hard that they had to hire external companies whose quality is so dubious. The physio had some great advice for me today, so it’s back to the GP to see if I can be referred to a special clinic.
@Azerane: exciting times! Of course, we’re expecting lots of cute pictures
@Q8: Aww, that’s so sweet! It’s nice to hear that he’s taking such good care of you. I’d advice you to cuddle him to bits, but I’ve got the suspicion that’s already the case
Breintje made my evening yesterday, he was so clever! It always amazes me how good they can be at pattern recognition. Now that the costumes are finished I’ve been spending the last hours of each day on the couch doing some knitting. Audiobook on, cup of tea within reach and a cuddly bunny next to me….bliss! When I go to bed I put my knitting away, turn off the audio book, turn off the floor lamp and tell Breintje that he needs to go into his cage where he gets a treat. Yesterday I put my knitting away, turned off the audio book, and suddenly Breintje bolted into his cage where he sat up like an attentive meerkat in the “treat here please”-pose. Appearantly he learned that within just a few days, without any attempt at training him.
Breintje is so clever! 9.30 -10 pm Bam hops into the bedroom, because he knows its time for fresh grass in the bedroom. At first I thought he could smell the grass, then I thought he heard me in the kitchen prepping his night-meal, but now he does it even if I’m watching tv or doing sth else quite non-food-related. His tummy or some other internal clock must be telling him grass-time is drawing near. It’s adorable.
That’s amazing
I love it when animals are so clever. Just wondering how much they know about our little rituals and habits.
Oh definitely. My buns wake me up at 5am everyday because they want their pellet rations. How that all started was they would just start scratching at the baby gate and blanket on the floor and I would get up and give them their pellets to get them to stop. They’ve ended up training me into it….they know what they get when they scratch on the gate early in the morning…
Let’s all be thankful that they can’t talk. Wouldn’t want them to gossip about our personal grooming habits we all have when no-one is watching. Oh dear, they’d have so many stories about earwax and toenails ![]()
Hahahaha if they could talk, they would surely have a blast mocking me when I braid my hair for overnight to make it wavy without using heat… “omg did you see her? Medusa much?” lol

Well of course I want a kitten now
I’ve been thinking about it a bit and I think we’ll probably look to get a kitten from the upcoming shorthair litter (by the time they’re ready to come home it will have been 8 months since we first started planning to get one), I think she only takes deposits at 6 or 8 weeks so at that time if there’s a longhair litter just born then we might just wait the extra couple of months, but if they’re not even born yet we might not wait. Time will tell, maybe we’ll have to have a chat to our rental agent about getting two cats, lol. I mentioned that to a friend of mine and she mentioned twice the vet bills. To which I said “but they’re never going to get sick.” ![]()
Dory’s cage training for our vet visit on Friday is not going too well. It’s my own fault since I’ve been really slack with letting her out lately. So now she’s too excited when she first comes out to go straight for the yummy treats. Instead she causes mischief for over an hour before stopping to go in her carry cage for treats. I had her so well trained too, she used to fly straight into her carry cage from her cage when I first let her out. Once again, my own fault for being slack with letting her out lately. Here’s hoping that on Friday things go without a hitch, otherwise we could be very late for the appointment, haha.
Oops, I hope it’s not going to end up to be “finding Dory”. It sounds very tricky. Hope you can get some more training in before Friday.
From Az –

Vienna, 4 weeks is plenty of time to procrastinate on cleaning!
OK – parents arriving TOMORROW.
NOTHING done !!!!
Aarrrgrgrgrgrhrhrhrgrhrgrhgrhrgrhrgrhrgrhhhhhhrgrhrghrgrhrghhhh
Az – of course you must get a pussa ASAP !!!! And I’m not steroetype’ing or generalisations or anyfink – but purepurebreeds may just cost a tad more in vets bills than a good old moggy.
(here come the disagreements – LOL) That’s my entourage’s expériences with purebreeds anyhow. Of course all depends on the breeder.
Cali has become a true darling in the past couple of months – my true shadow, more confident and sooooo loving. And when I wake up on my side in the morning, she is sleeping, balancing right on my hip bone … stooopid cat !!
Henry cecos have become particularly smelly in the evening recently –
just in time to prove me wrong when I argue with Mum on the phone who says that “it MUST smell in your house with the buns there” !!!! I argue that it’s a “nice” smell….
I don’t really believe that 100%, but blowed if I’m saying I’m wrong !!!!! Hahahahahaha
Right – off to tidy atleast the bathroom in time for HRH’s arrival !!!
LOL Vienna! I can tell you that buns don’t always smell pleasant. :p
OK… so, I’m confused. I had not been to the garden at the middle school I do work at for awhile. I decided to take a peek today. Well, the bed I had donated plants for was (for some unknown reason) filled with… zinnias? Ummmm………….
Haha, Vienna
How quickly time goes! I did just the same the other day before my mum dropped in. Last minute tidy up does the trick
Regarding purebreeds, that may or may not be so, I certainly get where you’re coming from. From my limited experience, I think it’s at least more likely to be true for dogs than cats. Cats are less “deformed” from their original physical state than dogs, so I think that helps a lot. Aby’s and Somalis do have genetic diseases, but the breeders that show etc screen for those to make sure they don’t breed two carrier cats together. But like you said, it also depends on the breeder. Our breeder was planning on sending two silver kittens overseas to a breeder she imports from sometimes, except one kitten had a slight heart murmur so will now be staying in Aus and be desexed for a pet home. That’s just something you can’t always predict.
Ellie, many thanks with the positive Dory vibes. It may have helped that I let her out later today for the cage training, but today when I let her out she went straight into it and stayed in for a half hour of her own choice, lol. I only put a couple of small sprouts and an almond in there, I guess she was eating every last crumb
Here’s hoping vet day tomorrow goes just as smoothly.
LBJ10, I’m guessing that there aren’t meant to be zinnias in the garden bed? What kind of plants did you donate? Perhaps they didn’t take proper care of them and they died?
@Vienna: rabbits, smelling? In my experience they’re one of the least smelly pets you can get. True, their litterbox can get a bit whiffy if not changed often enough, but that’s because their pee is stinky.
Hoping that Henry will keep his biological warfare down
@Azerane: Yay, that’s great! Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow
Bas called with some good news yesterday: he got the chance to do an alternative assignment for Anatomy. He flunked Anatomy several times in a row, and it’s the very last thing standing between him and his bachelor diploma. It’s a course with a very high failure rate anyway, because it’s all about cramming lists of Latin names and small details about every muscle. He’s more of an insight-learner than a fact-learner, so it was very tough for him to get all of it into his head.
The study counselor overlooked the email Bas had sent him months ago because he was on vacation. To make up for the lost time he told Bas that he could write an essay instead of having to do the official exam. In this essay he has to elaborate on certain medical cases and conditions, applying in-depth anatomical knowledge to solve problems. His work will be judged harshly, but he can use several source materials for reference. Right up his alley, the lucky bas***d ^_^
Back home again – I’ve been down in North Carolina since Saturday, mainly doing a lot of fishing (with the sunburn to prove it, it’s still quite warm there even in early October). I’m expecting to pick Panda and Fernando from their own bunny-boarding vacation this Saturday. Got quite a few chores to do tomorrow – I’ve got to give their condo a real good cleaning, finally be able to deploy the vacuum to hoover up all that scattered hay, maybe get a couple of dowels to shore up the upper deck properly.
Azerane – It wasn’t zinnias. LOL Yeah, I have no clue what happened.
Ellie, that’s great news about Bas’ study, here’s hoping it works well for him.
Welcome back joea
I bet Panda and Fernando will be happy to be home. Catch anything interesting/good?
We made it to the vet and back without any blood loss, hooray!
Dory got into her travel cage almost straight away which made life so much easier. She’ll never go back into it again now
Trip to the vet was uneventful, the vet was running late from a surgery but all went well. She was really good with Dory, took time to get an in depth history, asked about her plucking and behaviour, her diet etc. Spoke to Dory a lot all before even attempting to remove her from the cage. The nail clipping went well, and she suggested that her dodgy foot may potentially be causing her pain which could be why she still limps on it and doesn’t bear weight on it much, rather than simply it being a deformity from an old fracture. She suggested I try her on a course of meloxicam so I figured why not give it a go and see if there’s any improvement. The drive home from the vet took forever, terrible traffic. Dory was herself within 15 minutes of getting home, I added some painkiller to her dinner (which she ate) and already let me pet her again, which hopefully means I’m forgiven
It’s also the very first time I’ve touched her tongue. It sounds weird but parrots test things with their tongue. Every time I pet her she reaches out to me with beak open and tongue stretching but it’s nerve wracking, so today I just let it happen and she was nice
Long story, vet visit went well, Dory still likes me ![]()
Azerane, I caught some croakers, which are looked down upon by “elite” fishers but are actually rather underrated; they’re very good fried. I also caught a very curious kind of fish called a “sea robin”; look it up – it happens to be a popular ingredient in bouillabasse, but we only had the one, so I threw it back.
I’m going to be giving P&F’s condo a real good clean today, already washed up all their dishes. This will be a good chance for me to use the vacuum properly; they really hate the sound of the Dust Buster when I clean up the carpet on their upper deck so I’ve been leery about turning the big thing on tilll now,. Actually, I believe another BB colleague mentioned using an old-style carpet sweeper the other week, so I may buy one today. I also want to get a couple of dowels to reinforce the condo upper deck, I think I’ll need 2-4x 29-30″ sturdy wood dowels with at least a 1″ diameter. Oh, and I need a haircut, groceries and laundry too, as well as a gas (petrol) refill. I requested to have the buns’ nails done and their fur properly groomed while I was away, too.
Yesterday was just lovely out, and the buns were having a very nippy start to their bonding session. So I decided, ya wanna be stubborn? Fine. And I packed them up and brought them down in our pop-up puppy pen. I think that it worked as stressing them at first, but eventually they got comfortable and were back to being nippy if the other wasn’t giving them what they wanted. I wish I could let them on the grass but I live off of busy roads and it’s not possible. But I still think they enjoyed their time out!
Ellie: That’s great news about Bas’s essay
BN: Ophelia looks very regal in that picture
I have 2 of those pop up pens in my shed. They need a good clean out. They’re quick and easy to use. My Mum bought them for me but she intended for them to be permanent rabbit enclosures.
Had to take Potamus to the vet this morning. She wasn’t herself when I came in from work last night. Vet says shes pretty uncomfortable in the belly and she had slightly lower temp. Not sure what’s brought this on. The only thing she’ll willingly eat so far is dried willow. She’s not shedding that much and neither is Goose. I wonder if she’s about to go into a big moult though. TimTim had an off night a few weeks ago then moulted right after. PMS?
Nystagmus tonight. ![]()
Just brought Panda and Fernando home and the condo is full of buns again the way it should be.
I may have exceeded their daily ration of Oxbow baked treats, but then again they were having their nails clipped and needed the positive reinforcement. They’re forted up in their (cleaned) litterbox now.
(((((Potamus)))))
Aww, poor Potamus.
(((Potamus)))
((((((Potamus)))))) ![]()
Poor Potamus, get well soon!
Feel better, Potamus!!
Azerane: Glad to hear Dory’s vet visit went well! ![]()
Can’t wait for “Stranger Things” to return this month!
We just finished “Big Mouth” on Netflix. Very funny, I recommend it. If you enjoy shows like South Park and Family Guy, you might like this too. But, don’t watch it with your kids. It’s not a kid friendly cartoon…
Thanks for the vibes, guys. : )
I was full on preparing for onset of head tilt and a long road ahead…BUT… Things have already improved! This was how she was Sunday morning.
I had some baytril at home left from when she had it earlier this year. So I gave her some of that and some meloxicam.
I had an appt schedule for Goose this morning for a recheck but I did a switcharoo and took Potamus instead. By the time she was on the exam table, the eye movement was not even noticeable. I was able show vet video though. He could see her eardrum was bulging a bit on the side her head was turned too.
So I got fresh lot of baytril and we’ll see how we go. She actually improved slightly about 2 hrs after the Sunday dose. Vet said it can have fast effect. : )
Still not wanting much in way of food but still pooping,. They’re small but normal round & fibrous.
Aww! Potamus!
OK… so I have this feeling that the items I donated to the humane society were never used. I took a bunch of toys there for the rabbits and I have been back several times and I have never seen any of them in the cages. What are they doing with my donated items? =\
Poor sweet though, though I’m glad Potamus has improved already, that’s great that she’s already getting better.
LBJ. Central bank ? Given to new owners? Just out of sight?
Go Potamus…. ! ((( yay vibes )))
Aww, that video made me tear up. I want to cuddle her so much! Glad to hear that she’s doing a bit better.
Does the vet think that her nystagmus was caused by balance problems?
Sweet girl… glad she’s a bit better. Please give her nose rubs and smooches for me. ![]()
LBJ maybe the really good stuff get sent home with adopters?
How’s Potamus?
You guys think so? I’ll admit, I’ve never been a huge fan of the local humane society (don’t like the way they do things). But they are the only place that has rabbits available for adoption every once in awhile. When we were there last, they had 2 available. I’m just really skeptical considering how the girl acted when I dropped the toys off. ![]()
It’s hard to tell LBJ, but let’s hope for the best. But I totally understand why if you aren’t eager to donate to them again, sometimes you just get a bad feeling about a place. Maybe you can donate to other rabbit owners via your vet? They usually know which families have trouble making ends meet, and you could help them with some little extras for their buns.
We have something called the “foodbank” for people who are in massive financial troubles such as debt counseling. They receive donations of food, mostly foodstuffs which have a long shelf life. They distribute these among their clients every week. Lately our city has also gotten a pet version. People in debt also have trouble feeding their pets, so that’s a wonderful idea. Maybe there’s such a thing in your area as well?
Awww, Breintje and Bas are being such joys today! It’s exactly 3 years since we started dating, and Bas surprised me with a game I had been looking forward to for a long time
But, sorry to say, Breintje had an even bigger surprise in store for me! Normally he won’t stretch out near anyone and he’ll sit upright immediately if you approach. But after a long evening with lots of cuddles he suddenly stretched out next to me on the couch. Not too closely of course, but he allowed me to pet him everywhere. I could even pet him on his flanks, which normally is unthinkable. Wow, this sudden trust from a rather aloof bun is a bit of a shock. Happy, but also a bit puzzled.
Ellie – Yes, we have one. Their request list is for dog and cat items. I don’t know how many people they get requesting supplies for other types of pets. It’s a thought though. I’m just confused why the humane society wouldn’t make use of such items. I’ve given them food and treats before too. I have no clue if they used them for the bunnies or not. =\ I just feel so bad for them. They are kept in tiny cages. I’ve seen a volunteer or two playing with the small critters in the past, but I don’t think it’s a regular thing. Anyway, I just thought giving them some toys to play with would be nice. But the girl looked at me like I had two heads. Maybe I should have reconsidered the donation. LOL
Aww, I wish mine would do that. They pop up the second they see me. The little turds think I have a treat for them ALL THE TIME. You must be quite excited Ellie. Perhaps even feeling a little privileged? Hehe!
I don’t know what could have happened to the toys, hopefully it’s as Bam said.
Ellie, that’s great. Congratulations
I’m really not feeling up to work today, between my severe hayfever and my sore muscles, I feel like I have the flu. But it’s warm weather so hubby and I are going to the beach this evening so I can’t complain too much
I’m also going to get a new bale of hay after work too, I just got one about 2 weeks ago which I took a bit of a gamble on because it was more yellow than I would have liked. The bunnies have been wasting piles of it. My local fodder store is getting new season meadow in today so I’m hoping it’s really good stuff and not some clover filled nonsense.

Aww, I wish mine would do that. They pop up the second they see me. The little turds think I have a treat for them ALL THE TIME. You must be quite excited Ellie. Perhaps even feeling a little privileged? Hehe!
Reese does the same thing. When I walk into the room to open her cage when I get home from school, she hops up on the highest level of her cage and puts her front paws up on the bars and begs for treats. I always give some to her though because I feel guilty if I don’t because of her sad face when she doesn’t get treats. She has mastered the art of begging ![]()
I’d never be able to resist Reese’s little face. Or any bunny face for that matter, to tell the truth.
Happy Anniversay Ellie, Bas and Breintje!
Ellie, to your question about Potamus earlier, she actually didn’t present with any balance issues at all. Thank goodness. I *think* the nystamgmus may have come on due to some pressure on certain cranial nerves? Bam tells me its the 8th cranial nerve that controls certain eye movements. So perhaps there was a bit of an ear infection brewing with some swelling but it didn’t affect her balance organs in the ear? She’s doing great. Appetite for pellets fully returned. She’s a pellet piggy and normally stands at top of ramp of the play house to watch for me to come and give them. She’s not a fan of greens so it makes it difficult to tempt her with a variety of foods when she’s not wanting to eat pellets. Dried willow and dry rose petals were all she would willingly eat. Then she started some bits of hay and eventually back to pellets.
@Azerane, sorry you’re not feeling great. I hope your day turned around.
I’m glad to hear that Potamus is doing better and gobbling down pellets
Thanks JG
My day was alright, I mean it was just a regular busy day at work
It just makes me feel better to whinge about the hayever, lol. Hubby tells me I snored like never before last night as a result, haha.
I did manage to get some new hay for Apollo and Luna today. I got so tired of them filling their litter tray with hay they weren’t eating. I got meadow which I haven’t had in almost two years. It does have a bit of clover through it, but aside from the odd strand, it seems to be mostly in patches and shakes out easily due to the small leaves which just fall through the strands of grass. So I think it’ll be alright. Most of the meadow I saw last season was either really brown, or loaded with clover and hardly any grass. If the bunnies do well on it over the next couple of days, I might go and get a second bale. Not that I have a storage chest for the second one, but I’ll worry about that when the time comes ![]()
I’ve been having Ophelia sleep in the bedroom after bonding sessions and have Quincy out in the apartment. She keeps jumping up and doing binky madness on the bed though lol. Sleeping and all of a sudden I have a binkying bunny that has managed to land on my face hahah
That doesn’t sound like sleeping on Ophelia’s part.
I had Wooly back at the vet again today. I was worried about his facial paralysis. It seems like it’s worse than usual. The vet checked his teeth, everything seems to be wearing fine, so that’s good. She cleaned his ear on that side. His stuffiness hasn’t changed and the vet doesn’t believe he has an active infection. So… I guess we’ll just wait and see. He was pretty angry with me when we got home, but I’m sure he’ll get over it soon.
I’ve been concerned for a while that Panda and Fernando weren’t getting as much time out of their condo as they should be, and spurred on by another discussion, I finally put two and two together and realized that I didn’t necessarily have to be awake to let the buns have plenty of time out in their X-pen as long as I set it up properly to prevent escape attempts. So since Monday, I’ve been leaving the X-pen up all night, securely connected to the bunny condo and positioned so that it’s not too close to anything not good for them to be chewing/eating, and giving P&F free run between condo and pen from the time I get home in the evening until I leave for work again in the morning. They seem from what I can see to be well-pleased so far with the change, and have no problem with being herded back into their condo in the morning (this, of course, is also their breakfast time, so the desire for pellets overcomes all!) One of these days I’m either going to move to a larger place where I can make more room for a proper bunny area, or else bunnyproof as much of my efficiency as I can, but I think I’ve hit on a pretty decent compromise.
I’m glad that Wooly didn’t appear to have an infection, though still concerning regarding his facial paralysis. (((Wooly)))
Joea64, that sounds like a great solution for the buns. I know the times I’ve had mine out through the night they cause all sorts of chaos running about and chewing things
I’m so glad that it’s Friday and I’m home from work. It’s been such a busy and long week at work. We’re down a person on our team for 5 weeks, and this week was just the first and we’re already struggling to keep up. But we just do what we can do.
I’ve also just contacted someone about a second hand wooden chest, I store my hay bale in one but with the nice meadow hay that I just got I’d really love to get a second bale, I just need another chest to store it in to keep out mice and bugs etc. Here’s hoping it’s still available. ![]()
Does the average chest accommodate the average bale? I’m also considering this less expensive option once the wookie’s in Canada, since we’ll be on a budget again.
Is the word “average” alikened to the word “normal” ??
Average Aussie. Average Canadian. Average Bunneh ??
![]()
Azerane – Well, we’re unfortunately past the point of it not being there. It’s permanent. But no infection is good!
Vienna – LOL
Quick! Let’s get out the bananas and find out! ![]()
Jenny gave me a scare yesterday morning, refusing to eat home grown greens fresh picked and still wet from the rain. Thankfully, a couple of doses of simeticone and a tum rub helped, and by yesterday evening, she was accusing me of starving her, and kept demanding pellets, pellets and more pellets, wolfing them down (I only gave her a few at a time then a few more, spread over several hours) . This morning she seems fine. She’s not long after a heavy moult, so hoping she’s not about to start another!
Haha, average
Q8 from what I’ve seen, no. Most of the chests I’ve seen are about the size of my current one or a tiny bit bigger which is not quite large enough to fit a bale. The bale squeezes in, but the chest isn’t long enough so I usually have to take a couple of flakes off the end and store them separately. I always mean to measure a bale when I get one but always forget. The chest ended up being sold already that morning so unfortunately I didn’t get it… but I went and bought an additional bale anyway and I took the Christmas tree out of it’s storage bag and put the hay in that for the time being, lol. It’s plenty big though I’ve not sure how well it will breathe. I’ll go out tomorrow and measure the size of my chest and the bale, lol. That sounds bad, but you know what I mean ![]()
Rofl. Measure the size of my chest…… rofl…..
Ask hubby to do it !!!!! ![]()
Now I’m not saying Baloo smells like a dog (which he does although he’s much better than he was)…. but i just looooooooove him smelling of the clothes softener after I’ve washed his bedding…. hmmmmmmmm.
**sigh**
Tomorrow Quincy is going to his new home. She is an experienced owner that just lost her bun of 9 years. At least he is going to someone who will cherish him, and I have that peace of mind.
Today has been really rough. I sat in his room reading a book and he was soooooo snuggly. It’s heartbreaking. It’s almost as if he’s saying “don’t let me go mom, I like it here”. I’m gonna go cry like a baby now…. what a tough decision to have to send him away.
I’ve packed up his stuffie, blanket, and some of his favorite toys. I’m not sure if the adopter will want to take that stuff or not, but I hope she does. I think it may make the transition a little easier for him to have some familiar, comforting things around when he arrives in a strange place.
Oh and I typed up a whole sheet about his favorite foods, preferred type of hay, birthdate, neuter date, etc. I also included my phone number and ask that she please contact me if she has any questions about what is normal behavior for him, and that if it doesn’t work out for any reason I will take him back and find someone else for him. I don’t want him to live his life in a rescue. I may be going a bit overboard. But I love the little guy and I’m going to be worried sick about him.
BunNoob – I saw your other threads, but haven’t had a chance to respond. Sometimes things just don’t work out. It doesn’t mean that we didn’t try or that we failed in some way. So don’t beat yourself up too much. You’re doing the right thing by offering him a chance at having a happy life in a home where he can be a single bunny. Hopefully, you can take some comfort in the fact that this person is very experienced with bunnies and she will love him just as much as you do. I’m sure she will appreciate all of the stuff you’re sending with him and the instructions. Most people don’t have the benefit of knowing an animal’s history.
BunNoob, it seems you’ve found a great adopter and I’m sure too she’ll appreciate the things you’re sending with him. Really clever of you to write down his history for her. It’s so useful to have that sort of info. I’m sorry it didn’t work out though.

Rofl. Measure the size of my chest…… rofl…..
Ask hubby to do it !!!!!![]()
lol. Quick measurement and my chest is roughly 90cm long.
That’s externally, internally it’s roughly 83cm long and the bale I currently have is about 95cm long, by roughly 45cm by 37cm. The chest I found online the other day was 115cm long, would have been perfect. Nevermind ![]()
BunNoob, I’m sorry to hear about Quincy, hopefully he’ll love his new home ![]()
Az. Keep looking, there WILL be another one out there…. x
Yesterday was really hard. I actually feel a bit depressed. I cleaned up my room and took the gates down. It’s really strange to walk into my room and not see little Quincy run out from under the bed. I hope Ophelia isn’t upset. She has been really enjoying his company for the most part. So far she seems fine, all the rooms are opened up and she’s got more space to herself now. Left my bedroom door open last night in case she wanted to come up on the bed because she likes it up there. So I found that she likes to lay at the foot of the bed with us at night. At least SOME laying. Mostly binky madness and bunny 500s but its so funny it doesn’t even bother me. hahah. I’m glad I have her to get me through parting with Quincy. It didn’t feel real until he was gone.
Ophelia sounds like she knows just when you need cheering up, racing around like a mad thing at night
I’m cautiously optimistic right now. Some of you might remember that Luna tends to leave cecal mess behind where she sits and there’s always patches on the fleece. Well since I switched to the meadow hay, the fleece had been due for a change but I just hadn’t gotten around to it, even so I noticed the patches didn’t seem to be increasing. Last night I switched their fleece and this morning there’s no yuk patches. It hasn’t been 24 hours yet so a bit early to know for sure, but it’s possible she tolerates the meadow hay better. With the oaten hay they of course loved eating the oat sprays which may have been her downfall.
Wow, so much has been going on! Sorry to hear that it didn’t work out between Ophelia and Quincy, but as far as I can see that was neither your nor Ophelia’s fault. I think it’s a really brave and wise decision to re-home Quincy. Of course it’s heartbreaking to have to let a bun go, but this is the only way that it can have a positive outcome for all of you.
It’s very nice to hear that he’ll be adopted by someone with experience. I think the single bunny lifestyle will be more suited to him. Some bunnies simply refuse to share the spotlight, and bonding them is quite impossible.
I hope that Ophelia will get used to the new situation soon, and maybe you can start finding her a handsome bachelor in a couple of months.
Thanks everyone! I shampooed all the carpet yesterday to get some of the Quincy smell out. If he won’t be here what’s the point. Ophelia seems to be taking it fine. How could she not, she got a huge upgrade on her sandbox and she can get on my bed all she wants. She was actually very relaxed last night and no bunny 500s on the bed. My husband is sick so he slept on the couch because he thinks he sleeps better there. Several times I woke up and saw Ophelia laying next to me so I pet her til I fell back asleep and that was nice
Awww that’s so adorable! Hope she doesn’t get too used to it though, else she’ll chase your hubby back to the couch every night ![]()
I hope he gets well soon!

I thought about that too haha! even when we are both in the bed she comes up. I’m glad she’s very good about not doing any poops or pees up there! It’s really lovely to wake up with a bunny in your face ![]()
I think she is definitely more relaxed, so hopefully she’s happy. I hated to make this decision but I think it was best for both Ophelia and Quincy. I’ve been worried sick about him though, I hope he is happy and being treated very well.
Yes, she sounds a lot more relaxed. I think it’s for the best. Maybe the new owner will send you some info over time. Probably not in the first days because it’s still so fresh. At least I’d wait a couple of days so I wouldn’t upset the former owner. It wouldn’t surprise me if you’ll hear from her soon.
About buns in bedrooms: never again! Breintje used to roam free in Bas’ bedroom in his dorm, and we went there for a weekend last year to avoid a loud hardcore music festival. Bas was in Canada with family, so it was just me and the fluffmonster.
I had some lovely pictures to send him of us cuddling in bed, and Breintje loved being up there with me.
It was very hot that weekend, so I slept “au naturel” with only a thin sheet. I woke up with a scream in the middle of the night because I suddenly felt whiskers in a very private spot 0_0 Turns out that I had kicked most of the covers off and Breintje was sniffing my rear end ![]()
Bunny curiosity 1 : human dignity 0
That is too funny Ellie!! XD
Sometimes she jumps up the wrong end of the bed and lands on my head instead of coming up by the feet. But I can’t be upset, I’m just glad she wants to come up and snuggle

Kidding aside, a new malware (specifically, “ransomware”) called Bad Rabbit has appeared, first in Russia and Ukraine, and is now spreading worldwide. It appears to be attacking via fake installations of Adobe Flash Player (which is a popular vector for malware). So be careful!
Muchelle- he’s a bunrito!
I leave my top window open in my room during the day, just so the room can air. There’s also the general noise of traffic and people etc
Peep and Yumi never seemed to mind. Except today, when someone was talking to my nanny at the gate outside. Their voices could be heard through the window.
Peep FREAKED out.
I wasnt in the room when it started, I just heard stamping and general noise of things getting knocked over.
Peep was panicking and running around the room. Fortunately he ran head first into me when I walked in (didn’t see me) and it paused him. Picked him up and he made horrible noises, not a scream but whimpers.
I took him out of the room til he calmed down (and was happily tooth purring and dosing off )
He’s back in his room now,not a bother.
Yumi was fine, she’s a nervy bunny ,but she didn’t seem stressed.
It was very bizarre. I’m not looking forward to Halloween and fire works !
OK, Stoopid admission time. All this time I thought Q8 was a dood. Especially after discussing the Desert Eagle .50 cal! (Not meaning anything sexist, it’s a big honking pistol, even for big guys!)
Apologies apologies for my misconceived notions. Glad you’re feeling better Q8, and good job, Chewie!!
Q8! Have you been hiding something from us?! LOL ;p

Did you come across old threads in which I gripe about my boobs?
Well that doesn’t mean you can’t be a man… ![]()
Ah yes, the epic boob gripes. LOL
Leopold was being a crazybun this morning. It was SO not like him! I was getting ready to go out the door when I heard him “tearing up the room”. He was crazy zooming back and forth, digging his feet into the carpet each time he took off. He slid across the plastic floor mat for the office chair and he ran into the file cabinet. He was unfazed by the whole thing and just kept right on going. Wooly was just sitting there with a perplexed look on his face. Leopold is, after all, one very lazy lop. I don’t know why he was so hyper this morning.
Hahaha, you’re totally right Hazel. Thanks for that mental image XD
Maybe Leopold had spring madness? Or are you on the northern hemisphere? It’s always hilarious to watch a bunny zooming like mad, wish that Breintje would be doing it more.
BTW: has anyone ever tried bunny massage? Not simply petting but a real massage? I’ve looked up the YouTube tutorials by Chandra Beal, and it looks amazing. I wish I could help Breintje get more relaxed. He’s always so skittish and feisty, even a bit on the nervous side. He wouldn’t let me practice these techniques on him when he was sitting next to me on the couch, because it’s something new and he doesn’t like new things. So I put him on the table on a towel with a non-slip mat, and gently tried it out. He just kept freaking out at just the slightest touches, so I quickly put him back on the couch again.
It frustrates me that he’s always so scared of being handled and touched. I was only trying to help him
He does allow gentle petting but is super particular about where you can touch him. It took me a very long while too to get him to lay on the couch together. He occasionally makes physical contact, most of the time he keeps a bit of distance between us. Only during a longer petting session he’ll “melt” and press his body up to mine. And the odd thing is: on the train or at the vet he sticks to me like glue, wanting to be as close to me as possible. I wish he’d learn to do that in a comfortable situation as well.
Hazel!
??? Thanks for the mental image.
Ellie: I wonder: can you try massaging him while on the train (I suppose it would look a bit like you’re playing a very small accordion) so he gets used a bit to being touched in certain ways along certain parts of his body, and THEN after a while, try again on the couch?
Gina.Jenny: I finally found a good copy of Pawn Sacrifice and watched it last night. You’re right – great movie! (And I don’t even like Toby M.) ![]()
Yay for moobs! woot woot! (btw now I can’t read the Q8 as kyuu-eight, but it looks like a boob emote, the Q is the head of someone with a ponytail or talking on the phone… did I ever tell you guys about my light case of pareidolia?
)
In my neck of the woods, that’s called whimsy ![]()

LOL
Did you come across old threads in which I gripe about my boobs?
Oh I’m not touching that one. (aw crap) Or the other one (dammit!)
I quit.

Hi guys.
I’ve been a little depressed over the rehoming of Quincy and honestly I really don’t want to see any happily ever after bonding stories, so I’ve been kinda avoiding the forum lately. I guess I’m being a bitter, sore loser at the fact that my two weren’t able to work it out.
Anyway, just wanted to hop on and share a little story (or shall we call it fate?) about what happened today!
I take the bus home from work every day, but today I ran into a strangely familiar face- the woman who adopted Quincy! Really, what are the odds. She said he is doing great, he’s already warmed up to her and he is loving doing zoomies around her apartment and getting lots of love from her, which he enjoys. She thinks I was under-selling how totally sweet he is with hoomans.
Just wanted to share because that honestly just made my day! Ophelia has been doing wonderful and seems a lot happier, more energetic, and is totally loving her spacious, new and improved sandbox. She also gets super spoiled now she’s a single bun and all, so we got a sampler pack of all these delicious fancy fruity pinecones and herbal blends from small pet select. $50 later my husband wants to know why I’m buying her what is basically the bunny equivalent of Teavana tea …. because she’s my baby, duh ![]()
@Q8: Hahaha, “a small accordeon”, I love the choice of words
Sorry to say, but Bas has to travel alone for a while. Using public transport with a wheelchair/mobility scooter is such a hassle here in NL. It’s been on the news a lot the last couple of weeks. Technically busses are supposed to have a ramp, but bus drivers frequently drive past handicapped people waiting at bus stops, claiming that they don’t have time to assist them, bla bla bla. Nearly every train entrance is half a meter above the level of the platform, so you have to use steps. If you want to travel by train you have to request some sort of “bridge” for (dis)embarking. Not every station has one, and you have to make the request at least a day in advance AFAIK so it isn’t flexible.
There’s a lot of room for improvement regarding accessibility in general. I even couldn’t visit my GP anymore because his office isn’t accessible. Luckily I managed to find a new GP in my area. 2 out of 6 practices in my area are accessible, and this was the only one where you can get the same doctor every time.
I don’t get why everyone complains about high health care costs while the GP has to make housecalls because his office isn’t accessible. It’s infinitely cheaper and more logical to remove a few high thresholds and add a little ramp to your office than to make the doctor travel around. Odd…
@BN: awww, please don’t call yourself a sore loser. It’s completely understandable that reading those things upset you right now. You’ve done everything you could to make it work between them, but we all know that buns have huge personalities. Sometimes it just doesn’t work, no matter how much effort you put into it. Rabbits have strong opinions and if it’s a “NO!” from one of them it just won’t fly. I hope that seeing Ophelia happy will make you feel better about it.
And what a happy coincidence that you met her
It’s nice to hear that he’s doing well at her place. In fact, this is the best possible outcome of the whole situation.
Ellie – That’s what was even more weird about it. We’re heading into fall. It’s getting darker outside and colder. You’d think he’d be getting ready for the “harsh” winter that’s approaching. =\
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with accessibility. I find that odd that they don’t have more accommodations. I mean, here, everything has to be accessible. There are standards. There need to be ramps, elevators, automatic doors, etc. Heck, even clothing racks at stores need to be spaced far enough apart so a wheelchair can fit through if needed.
Oh my, Bladesmith. LOL
Aww, BunNoob, I’m glad you got to have an update about Quincy. I’m sure it was comforting to know he is already doing so well.
I tried to rescue some rabbits today. There was a post on facebook earlier in the week about some dumped/stray rabbits not too far away. I only saw the post yesterday afternoon and inquired if they were still there. No one knew and feeling tired of often seeing people post about stuff like that, but never actually doing anything I went over there to try and catch the two buns. I didn’t even expect to find them. As it turns out, after talking to some locals, they’ve been there over a year since they were babies and have since had babies themselves. It made me more sad when I was told to be careful because they were living quite happily and healthy and being fed by people who might be angry if they saw me catching them. There was stale bread, carrots and cabbage leaves around the place. I saw three buns in total but likely there’s more. Near impossible to catch, they let me get close within a couple of meters but not close enough to catch and they have good wits about them. There’s also too much vegetation in the area so I just didn’t have any luck. I thought I’d be alright along the fence line putting a carrier at one end, but rabbits don’t herd well like sheep do. Rabbits stop and start and change direction so that didn’t work either. In the end I had to give up, not sure what’s next to be done. One of the people I spoke to said he rang the RSPCA when the rabbits first turned up, but either they didn’t do anything at all or failed to catch them also. I’ve no idea what I would have done had I managed to catch them. Brought them home, spent too much money fixing them up before rehoming them for less than what it cost me. All while housing them who knows where. I don’t know, I just wanted to make a difference I guess. If they’d been puppies, they would’ve been picked up within a week of being dumped, rabbits, no one cares enough to try.
I often feel like buns are perhaps the most short-sold creatures on the planet. Most people just don’t realize how amazing and worth the effort they are. ![]()
I hate (and love) just knowing when something isn’t right with one of the buns. Apollo and Luna were lounging around and I looked over at them, I’ve no idea why but I just felt something wasn’t right with Apollo. I offered him 4 different foods which he refused. So now I’m going to dose him up with simethicone and then try some more food. This better not result in a late night vet visit. Always on a Sunday.
Edit: Cheeky bun… I pulled out the simethicone bottle and he started eating some of the fresh grass, lol. He’s now nibbling on hay too. Silly bunny scaring me like that.

I couldn’t agree more. I lament that I’ve gone so long without knowing the love of a bunny.
Azerane – I’m sure he knew what was coming so he decided he’d better eat something before you gave him anything yucky. ![]()
Azerane: I’m sorry you couldn’t catch the bunnies, poor things.
But at least you know they have some food. Maybe you can find someone to help you and try again? Glad that Apollo decided to get better on his own. ![]()
Stranger Things is back! We’ve only watched the first two episodes, but it’s great so far. ![]()
@Azerane: haha, oh that simethicone bottle… Maybe just the sight of it was a warning enough, I hope his appetite will pick up soon. And indeed, oh gods why, always on the weekends?
@Q8: indeed, rabbits are the most underappreciated pets. If anybody asks me why I love bunnies so, well tonight was just one of those perfect nights that’ll tell you all about the joy of having a bun in your life.
It’s getting really chilly here and so damp that the droplets have condensed on the windows. It’s far past midnight and it’s blissfully quiet in the building. My electric blanket is already heating up my bed and I’m snug on the couch with a hot cuppa. I put on one of my favourite Pratchett audiobooks and I’m doing some knitting. Breintje hops onto the couch and is looking for the comfiest position. Walking backwards, he keeps wiggling his butt until there’s no way he can get closer next to my leg. A couple of strokes of my hand later and he’s already teeth-clicking and melting into a gooey furry puddle. After half an hour or so he springs up, turns around quickly and snatches away my crochet needle. His new trophy firmly in his mouth he’s making mad binkies around the coffee table. Never a dull moment

Picturing that made me smile. Thanks, I needed that. : ) Not sure if there’d be anything cuter then a wiggling Breintje butt.
I posted a link to a photo compilation thing of Moxie in her rainbow bridge thread, in case anyone wanted to look at it. <3
Love you guys
Where is the link?![]()
Oh Moxie, that’s so beautiful.
@Hazel, thanks. Yeah I might try contacting a rabbit rescue, though they’re based a fair drive away they might be able to round up some people to make a go of it together.
Moxie, that’s so lovely. A wonderful way to remember.
Happy Howloween everybun
I had the thought too late that I could have dressed up as a magician and answered the door with Apollo all night
He would have hated it, lol. We’ve had a slow trickle of children collecting candy. Some as silent as can be, others screaming “Trick or treat” at the top of their lungs. And one cute black lab dressed up as well
It’s looking good for plenty of leftover chocolate ![]()
Moxie – that’s lovely – she was a very lovely and very lucky bunbun.
Az – front door bell fuse removed & shutters down => problem solved !! Bahhhhhh humbug (and proud!) !! LOL
I don’t need an excuse to buy and eat chocolate !!! hahaha
Vets this morning for Henry’s MYXO/RHD jab
I am a bad, bad and ashamed bunny mum.
Henry has put on 1kg in the past 6 months
. Zou has put on 700g
The vet didn’t need to say anything, I said it for her.
In my defence I don’t think their diet has changed – it coincides with their moving into the condo and so surely don’t boing boing around as much as outdoors.
And also the arrival of the FibaFirst sticks – can they really have added to the weight?
With Baloo in the house they have limited space to boing around in
So we’ll have to change the set up too…. again…
It’s never ending isn’t it !!
And they have been going through mega moults and so looking big didn’t seem out of ordinary…
So – diets for the furries and housework for me as penance…. (the worst kind, for me !!) ![]()
Oops! I think the change in exercise is the most important part here. As for the treats: I don’t suppose you feed them all day.
Rabbits are great at storing fat from the most minute amounts of food, this has to do with their diet in the wild. Their digestion is hyperefficient. Our vet sighed: “I swear: some rabbits can get fat on hay…”.
Hi peeps, I’ll be offline for at least a day or two. My ADSL modem died of old age, and mobile data is expensive. My ISP is sending me a new one, but it’ll take several days. Breintje will be over the moon now that my main source of distraction is gone: more cuddles!
So no worries about me having been beamed up by aliens/fallen down a bottomless pit/lost in time and space etc.
See you soon!
(Edit: what in the world? It came online again, let’s see how long it’ll last this time. I’ve had several minor outages over the last couple of months, getting more and more frequent. So the modem is up for replacement anyway. But let’s see how much longer it’ll last.)
Bad news – (as if Baloo wasn’t already sending me on a roller coaster ride of emotions with his reactivity to other dogs…)
Just got back from a routine visit to vets (rabies injection) and she found a tumor. Spleen. About four times the size of the spleen.
It wasn’t there 5 weeks ago when she saw him last.
He’ll be operated on next Monday. Results back 2 weeks later.
It could be a simple haematoma and benign. Or malignant and very nasty…. ![]()
(Baloo) positive vibes

I wonder myself how much longer my current cable modem will hold up, I’ve had it 3 1/2 years now. It was actually the replacement for an older modem that didn’t die but just became obsolete. I think occasionally about replacing my router too – I got it on sale last year but the cloud-storage capability has been real finicky ever since.
Thanks GJ ((( )))
I’ve just been reading up on spleen masses. 60% are malignant. So he’s got a 1 in 3 chance.
Either way his spleen is coming out ! Who needs it anyway ?!…. ![]()
Aw (((Baloo))), sorry to hear this news Vienna. I have everything crossed that result will be benign.
The mass being that big is actually a somewhat good sign (yes, I did some reading up too.) Benign masses have the capacity to grow bigger than mailignancies.
https://www.mspca.org/angell_services/so-your-dog-has-a-splenic-mass/
Poopr little bub. He had the extreme fortune to be chosen by you though.
Well i guess i see it two ways. Either he lives (benign) and the fact that i just happened by chance to take him to the vet for a completely unrelated manner has saved this tumor from growing and exploding (or whatever they do) causing death in a matter of hours.
Or its a nasty one and we will have found it in time to understand it, do pain relief and avoid suffering.
We will know which one of the above it is in two weeks.
We’ve just been for a cracking 3hr walk in the woods. We met no other dogs. Phew! It was pure bliss !!! (Though he did bark off very loudly and aggressivley at trotting horses….)

Oops. Just realised we are in Nov chat now.
FL : Feel free to transfer over if you wish
Vienna, we can’t transfer over posts, just whole threads ![]()
Silly Vienna !! ![]()
No, Vienna is never silly ???
Sorry to hear that about Baloo, it must have been a huge shock. I hope that the test results will be good news.
