  I have my 5-month old Holland Lop Charlotte, and I was hoping to get her spayed, as it is said to really help the rabbit, unfortunately, my situation prohibits my rabbit probably ever getting the procedure…Am I a bad bunny owner? I truly, really, do care for her, but I am unable to afford, or find, a veterinarian available to do the procedure on my bunny, the only available vet charges $600! HELP! Any advice on what I can do to keep her life perfect, even without getting fixed?!

  Inquire. It’s very important to spay your rabbit. Additionally, without spaying, it’s not possible to curb the hormonal and natural behaviors that arise with sexual maturity. It also means your rabbit will never be able to bond with other rabbits, if you ever want a second rabbit. She’s still fairly young, so if $600 is your only option and best option (you want an experienced rabbit vet doing the spay; no exceptions. Spays are risky for unexperienced vets, even rabbit vets who are low-experience with spays. You want a rabbit vet with spaying experience), then save money over the next couple of months to get it done.

  Your female has an 80% chance of developing cancer by just a few years of age if she is not spayed. So no, she shouldn’t be left unspayed. Not to mention if she isnt spayed she’ll never be able to bond with another bun, she’ll potentially become quite aggressive and just overall will not be as happy as she could be.

  Around 80percent of female buns will get uterine cancer by the age of 3 if they are not spayed. Its very recommended because of this that you spay her. Cancer treatments are going to cost a lot more and are going to be much harder on her body than spaying her when shes of age.
  
  Definitely ask the shelter nearby if they know of any rabbit certified vets who can spay your bun. Ask the vet about prices, and how many rabbits they have worked on. Although scary, its best to also ask how many rabbits died on the table during their spays. If the vet hasnt worked on too many rabbits, dont use that vet. If the vet is not certified, dont use that vet. If the vet has had more than 1percent die on the table, dont use that vet. You might have to do a lot of searching to find the perfect vet for your bunny, and might have to drive farther than expected for that perfect vet, but it will be well worth it to have a happy and healthy bunny

  This is a website from House Rabbit Society that lists rabbit savvy vets. I’m unsure of your exact location, but click on the Wisconsin link and there are several options available there.
  
  And to comment on the OP, you really do need to get her spayed. As the others said, reproductive cancers have very high incidence in unspayed rabbits. Even if you have to save up for a year, it will be so worth it and extend her life and improve quality of life for her.
