Does your rabbit go outside? This could be warbles, which begin with bot flies. They either lay eggs directly on the rabbit or in the grass or vegetation that a rabbit hops around in. Then the eggs stick to the rabbit’s fur and the larva hatch and burrow into the rabbit.
You should take your rabbit to the vet and have the warbles removed. If you try to remove the warbles yourself and accidentally squish it, it releases a toxin into the rabbit.

Sounds like it could be maggots. Maggots and other burrow bugs can cause nerve damage and other permanent problems if not taken care of asap. Youll need to take all of your rabbits to the vets. Deep clean their cage, and work on better bug protection if they live outside.

I do take him outside a lot, but he doesn’t love out there. I let him free roam around my yard for a few hours a day. I don’t have money for the vet but I will call them and see how much it would cost. I have a stubborn dad who doesn’t like bunnies and refuses to do even the simplest thing for them so it’ll be tricky but I’ll try.

Youll want to stop taking them outside. Something in your yard caused this, and although its not your fault, you should avoid taking them outside from here on out so this doesnt happen again. Youll also need to take them to a vet. If they burrow far enough, they can kill your rabbit. Your other rabbit may also have them and you dont know about it yet.

There are a lot of dangers outside, and bot flies and blow flies can cause very serious problems, suffering, and even death, if rabbits are not attended to by a vet in time. All animals are going to need vet care during their lifetime, and rabbits are no exception. I hope that you can get to the vet quickly and get help for your rabbit.

Don’t squeeze. It sounds like botflies. A vet or a vet tech can remove them. They must be removed, but if you squeeze, the maggots can break and die and that’d very bad for your rabbit.

I agree with the others, don’t take your rabbits outside.

This is a very serious condition which has to be seen by a vet immediately. If not it can very well cause the death of your rabbits. If your father refuses to let them be treated, that’s animal cruelty through neglect which is a criminal offense.

I understand that money is often a big issue, but rabbits are expensive pets who need frequent vet visits. Their yearly shots and health check, dental inspection, desexing etc. Rabbits can have a very frail health depending on the breed and the individual. Costs for a rabbit may very well rise to $1000 per year as they age. If you can’t pay the vet, don’t get the pet.

Your rabbit has flystrike. A fly has laid eggs on her and the larvae are eating her alive from the inside out. This WILL kill her if left untreated, she will either die from the damage the larvae are causing, or she will succumb to infection. Do not try to remove them yourself, as has already been said, if you kill one of them it will make things much worse for your bun. Both of your rabbits have to go to the vet NOW, there are likely more than you have found, and the second rabbit probably has them too. If your father won’t pay for it, get the money somewhere else. Borrow it from friends or family, ask your parents for it instead of getting a Birthday or Christmas present this year. It doesn’t matter, just make it happen somehow. They have to be treated by a vet right away, it’s not optional.

Refusing to seek veterinary help when needed is not stubbornness. It is abuse. Pure and simple. If your father is not prepared to take responsibility for the bunny’s health, quite frankly he should be reported for animal cruelty. Either get your rabbits to a vet NOW or surrender to a no-kill shelter where the rabbits can be treated properly.
