Hi there everyone! Recently, I had my two female rabbits spayed. Before their surgery, they would eat Forti-Diet Timothy hay from Walmart and they would eat it normally and a lot of it. Now, when we feed them, they are eating a lot less of it, leaving LOTS of waste and finishing eating the pieces they like almost too quick. We’ve been giving them smaller portions more times in the day thinking they just aren’t hungry and that process will be better, but the waste hay is still piling up. Is it possible they do not like Timothy hay anymore and want a change in hay? Has anyone else’s rabbits’ taste change after spaying/neutering?

We’ve tried different bags to see if it was just one bag they didn’t like, but that’s not the case.

Where is it possible to buy different types of hay in my area that isn’t too expensive? I live in American Fork, Utah and we’ve tried a couple country stores, but no luck. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

How long since their spay? If it was recent, it could be unwillingness to eat due to discomfort. How are their eating habits with their veggies (if they’re being fed veggies yet) and pellets? Additionally, have you noticed changed in their poo, as a result of decreased hay consumption? This can include less spherical poo and smaller poo.

It’s been maybe a month now so they’re completely healed. They’ve been eating lettuce and pellets perfectly fine and their poo is maybe a bit smaller but it hasn’t been a concern. I’ve been really worried about their lack of appetite for hay though, especially seeing how quickly their litter box fills up with hay they refuse to eat.
