Joined this group for some advice/tips! My dear daughter thought buying her little brother a rabbit w/o permission was a grand plan…no background on rabbit! We ordered a cage immediately and within months it had outgrown the cage. We brought Bun outside for play and that’s the only time He is wide open and happy! Not biting or scratching! Hubby built a nice hutch with a closed in box and runner as well as enclosing about 20 foot of our yard. The rabbit LOVES to run and play and has done AMAZING…. until the digging! Hubby covers the hole back up about every other day and it’s been great fun…he is in route to Lowe’s to by more fence to bury underground to stop the digging. Fingers crossed! I’ve been trying to research ways to still let him dig (he obviously loves it) and suggestions on how to keep him warm now that fall is here? When we have snow and really cold temps we will bring him inside to the basement. But he HATES being inside! He bites the cage and is SOOO MEAN indoors! Do any of you hang heat lamps and use blankets in the hutch? Not sure on breed but he is bigger than our dog and is a Heather grey color! Any tips would be amazing!!!

Are you sure it’s being inside that he hates or is it an indoor cage that he hates?

Perhaps you could get a sandpit for him to dig at/in?

if you got him neutered it may fix some of the aggression issues and even digging. does he have floppy ears or stand up ones? it would be awesome if you could post a pic! rabbits are actually high maintenance animals and require care similar to that of a cat and dog. they need toys, and continuous fresh hay, a high quality pellet and for winter time he needs to be shielded from the elements, such as the cold, wind, rain, and snow. rabbits are very suceptable to hypothermia especially if they get damp. if you bring him inside, I would suggest an xpen as a cage. they are normally marketedfor dogs but are excellent for housing rabbits because a rabbit in a cage should be able to hop 4 times to one side and stand up straight without hitting the top of the cage. I bet he loves that run though! it sounds awesome!
