Mini Rex Sore Hocks from Hutch and Flooring?

  First time posting here but I often check this forum for advice. Anyways my mini Rex Jax just turned a year old, and this week we discovered he had mites. While Jax was being treated and examined for mites at the vet it was discovered that he had two small sore hocks on his feet. Anyways I am curious on how to change his cage to prevent these sore hocks from getting worse. Jax’s hutch sits on a plastic dog crate, with fleece blankets on the second level. The vet suggested I put shavings down but it’s just so messy and makes it very hard to clean as he kicks it everywhere. Tonight I decided as a temporary solution to put a small fleece blanket down just to help him a bit. I am curious as to what I could put for the flooring to help him prevent the sore hocks! Suggestions are much appreciated attached are pictures of the hutch and housing. Thank you in advance for your comments

  Some members have had success with memory foam bath mats for sore hocks. Rexes are, as you probably know, prone to this problem due to their rex fur.
  
  Vet bedding could perhaps be an option (it’s like thick sherpa fleece with a rubbery underside so it lies still). I have vet beds for my Bam in his play house and on his IKEA beds. Rabbits seem to like it a lot. You need to create traction without abrasion, because too soft materials can also cause sore hocks.
  
  Wooden shavings doesn’t seem like a good option to me, to be honest. It gets really messy and the wooden shavings tend to stick to the bun. But I’ve never had a rex bun. I know we have many members that do though, so hopefully they’ll see this thread and offer advice.

  What bam said are really good suggestions!
  My girl has skeletal problems that gives her sore hocks, so i use foam flooring and various padded matts to try keep her paws in good condition.
  The bath matt’s are great if your rabbit isn’t a big chewer
  I just wanted to pitch in that wood shavings aren’t a great idea, even heat treated ones often contain mites, which is a pain.
